61.0. "Eddie Moran closed?" by NATASH::WEIGL (Turboferrets - racing for answers) Tue May 26 1987 13:55

    Does anyone know what happened to Eddie Moran's Outdoor Trading
    (the sports store) on Rt. 62 in Acton/Maynard? They've closed up
    shop w/o a peep.

61.1downtown move?TALLIS::JBELLWot's..Uh the Deal?Tue May 26 1987 16:439
Recently I noticed that they have opened a new store downtown, halfway between
the North Station and Haymarket T stops in the same building as J.L.Hammet.

Perhaps it was sort of a move rather than a closing.

I don't expect them to take too much business away from Hilton's Tent City
(two blocks away) considering their high markup.

61.2Maybe they got washed away ...SYSENG::MORGANTue May 26 1987 19:204
    I think he also has (or had) a store in Sudbury. If you're really
    interested you might try calling there.

61.3Ripoff at Moran'sCIMNET::LEACHEMon Oct 12 1987 16:0910
    This is old news at this point, but one of the local papers had
    an article in which the owners of Moran's claimed to have suffered
    a major overnight theft of uninsured goods at the Acton store, with
    said theft dealing a death-blow to the financial health of the
    organization. I don't remember whether all of the Moran stores
    were closed or not.

    The story sounded a little odd to me, as if (perhaps) the stores
    were already failing before the theft even occurred. If that were
    the case, then one begins to speculate about the theft itself ...
61.4 Sale tooVIDEO::NOTTTue Oct 13 1987 14:4711
    Maybe it's old news, but curiosity still exists.

    Anyway, remember that they had an auction sale there several
    months ago - only serves to verify that indeed they apparently
    suffered from financial death blow of some kind.

    (I assumed at the time that it might be related to death of an owner)

61.5From a long time ago...TELCOM::MCVAYPete McVay, VRO TelecomFri Oct 16 1987 01:247
    As I remember the story from the Middlesex News, they were only
    marginally profitable to begin with. They had a robbery at one
    of their stores which cleaned out a major protion of their stock.
    They were just beginning to recover from that when the floods hit
    this spring. Most of their stock was stored in the basement of
    their Acton/Maynard location, and the river ruined it. Apparently
    both of these incidents finally forced them under.
61.6The Saga Continues..TALLIS::JBELLWot's..Uh the Deal?Fri Nov 06 1987 16:296
For those of you who come to Maynard from the west, there seems to be some
activity at the site. They new sign says SKI HAUS.

Is this the same as the outfit with a store in Wilmington?
