25.0. "The video Store on Main St" by ADVAX::GREENWOOD () Mon Nov 10 1986 19:33

    The video store on Main St (Media ???) has been showing a sign for
    most of the summer claiming that it will reopen next Monday, and
    is temporarily closed dus to staff scheduling mix-ups. Some mix-ups,
    it has been closed for over two months - but all the stock seems
    to be there. Does anyone know what has happened ?

25.1Bad ReputationBEES::PEARCELinda PearceTue Nov 11 1986 11:4911
That video store has a bad reputation as a business.
They are the same ones who up and moved overnight from
Sudbury without notifying their customers. There was quite a lot
of coverage on that in the local paper.

They may reopen when the mall is complete. But, I personally would
not want to do business with them. They're unpredictable.

25.2Bankrupt?JON::MORONEYWelcome to the MachineTue Nov 11 1986 12:066
They may have gone bankrupt, and the business is at the stage where the owners
are trying to convince a bankrupcy court to allow them to go Chapter 11 and
reopen. I've seen similar mysterious closings before, with equally mysterious
signs on the door, and each time it was a bankrupcy.

    Speaking of video stores, the Video Paradise ain't so hot, either.
    I got a harrassment call from them about some X-rated tapes that
    they rented to somebody in my name. When I explained that 1) I
    haven't rented from them in over a year, and 2) that I didn't own
    a VCR, they were all huffy about how I should have called THEM to
    cancel my "membership", which is free....
25.4Does the number 11 mean anything?PRAGMA::GRIFFINDave GriffinSun Nov 23 1986 01:1918
    Re: .2

    They are definitely in some form of bankruptcy proceedings. We
    received a phone call from a bank or lawyer who was tracing down
    assets. Their records indicated that we had not returned 2 tapes
    (which we had done many months ago).

    I'm not sure how "unreliability" factors into a lousy videotape
    store. I don't consider the renting of videotapes to be a terribly
    quality-oriented business. If they go under, the most I have to
    do is walk another 25 yds to the next five&dime store - nowadays
    everybody rents the stuff.

    It's not as if these folks are selling cars. If your taken in by
    "lifetime memberships" well then you might have a case. I think
    P.T. Barnum had a saying though..

No, the store that used to be between Brooks Drugs and the restaurant (ex-Greek
Village, ex-Copper Kettle, does it have a name now?)

    I think the restaurant has gone BACK to the Copper Kettle!

    Anybody know WHY?

25.8Sounds good to meSYSENG::MORGANWed Dec 10 1986 13:025
    The Copper Kettle will be opening again shortly (possibly next week).
    From what I've read it will have the same owner as before but the
    menu will have more variety.

25.9Maybe they'll invest in some spices...nah...ETHER1::G_SCHULTZGeoffrey SchultzWed Dec 10 1986 15:525
Re .8	I assume by reply 8, that the food will be just as bland and
    tasteless as before. Oh well, maybe some day a restaurant worth
    eating at will open there.

    The restaurant will be opening on Monday, Dec. 15th. The owner
    is the original owner before it changed hands. Tom Gove. The food
    will not be the same bland food. There will be daily specials for
    lunch and dinner.

    Some of the food that will be on the menu:

                Fettucine Alfredo
                Veal Parm
                Chicken Parm
                etc.

    If I remeber I will get the specials for Monday. Please don't bad
    mouth the restaurant till you try the food. I know for a fact
    that both cooks know how to cook. Seeing one of them is my
    son-in-law and has made different dishes for me at home. Homemade
    cream of broccoli soup, fettucine alfredo, veal marsala, to name
    some of the dishes. Wish he would learn how to make small portions
    when making them at home.

    Why don't you try the food, before you say anything. Of course
    everyone won't like the food or have different taste.

    Like I said if I remember I will get the specials for opening day
    and post them here.
