497.0. "Announcing Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 - Deployment Pilot" by VARDAF::BERBIGIER (No known policy forbids common sense) Thu Apr 24 1997 13:05

DIGITAL Internal Use Only

THIS MESSAGE IS FROM
CCS IT SECURITY OPERATIONS and CORPORATE SECURITY

Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 Deployment Pilot

This message is being resent. It was sent out prematurely on Monday, April
14,1997. The Webserver for Norton Anti-Virus is now available for people
who want to participate in the Deployment Pilot.

Further to the IT Security Council anti-virus tools strategy update of
April 4th, we are pleased to announce that DIGITAL has completed vendor
negotiations with Symantec for internal use of Norton AntiVirus software,
world-wide. Prior to announcing Norton AntiVirus (NAV) for Windows 95 to
the entire corporation, we plan to test deployment and support processes,
and train Help Desks and desktop support groups. This activity, referred
to as the NAV 95 Deployment Pilot, will start immediately and will be
completed in four weeks. At that time, an announcement will be sent to the
entire corporation through Readers' Choice announcing the availability of
NAV 95.

Instructions for participating in the NAV 95 Deployment Pilot can be found
under the "Anti-Virus Tools and Strategy" section linked from the
Information Services Security home page at:
 http://www-is-security.mso.dec.com

Any questions coming from the field can be referred to a local IT Security
contact as per
http://www-is-security.mso.dec.com/is-sec/gen-info/sec-ops.html

The Windows 95 (NAV 95) Deployment Pilot encompasses the following:

*	Pilot period of one month to prepare for full scale communication and
        deployment, including upgrade mechanisms.
*	Immediate availability of NAV for Windows 95 for early adopters
*	Formal training sessions for support staff to be arranged in Americas and
        Europe (mid-May)
*	Support to be provided via web feedback pages and the security
organization until Help Desks and desktop groups are ready. Escalation and
Symantec Platinum support coordinated through the Virus Core Team.
*	Japan version of NAV 95 available this week. The English version will be
used as the standard everywhere else.

Norton AntiVirus software for Windows NT (Intel) will be released in Q4.
The NAV Alpha/AXP version is expected in September. NTSWEEP provides
coverage for NT in the meantime.

Noteworthy benefits of Norton AntiVirus include:
*	Ease of use
*	Real-time detection and disinfection capability
*	Availability on Windows 95 and Windows NT (Intel)
