282.0. "Serverworks Trap forwarding still a problem" by EEMELI::toivo.fno.dec.com::hsk03::jaitokari (OOPS) Thu May 22 1997 06:53

HI

I've been sitting here for past few days trying to forward ServerWorks
traps to NMS. BAD LUCK, nothing happens. General traps are forwarded
OK, but it do not send anything of OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.36... traps.

I've tried both SW2.2 and SW3 (BL26) on W95, WNT4.0 Intel (SP2 and SP3)
WNT4.0 Alpha. Settings done by the book, and SNMP community is PUBLIC
so security should not be the reason. I get those alarms, but i cannot
forward them.

If we are going to document this property in SW3 documents it must also
work.

If i try to look at POLLER output file, it looks like poller is not
doing ServerWorks own trap generation at all. What proses is the one
that reads TRAPFWD.INI ?

282.1Trap Forwarding is limitedALFSS2::OLSEN_GReal Men Go Wireless!Thu May 29 1997 12:4420
Trap forwarding to Enterprise Managers is limited to standard SNMP
"Environmental" traps only. These are described in note 203.1.

That means all the ServerWORKS extensions are NOT able to be forwarded
(ie CPU Utilization, Disk space utilization, etc.) due to limitations
of the OS SNMP agents to allow extensions like ServerWORKS to work.

However, that is only true for Netware, Digital Unix, and NT. The SCO
agent reportedly will forward all of them - if you can find a SCO
    machine ;-).

There are a couple of good white papers on the internal web site on
trap integration but they are both unclear as to what will be
forwarded. To get the 4 traps noted to forward, just compile the
ServerWORKS Mibs. Note that ServerWORKS manager can be installed within
the framework of Net View and thus Net View will get all the SW Traps.
