232.0. "Problems with SW Agent on Prioris Server" by ALFSS2::OLSEN_G (Hey y'all, how y'all doin'?) Thu Mar 20 1997 20:48

    Hi,

I'm having difficulty helping a field engineer get serverworks running
on a new Prioris server with NT 4.0.

We were able to get ServerWorks/ManageWorks installed, configured
alarms, did an IP discovery, etc. We installed the agent (NT) on the
Prioris but we can't ever discover it or force it in the the Server
Objects list. It goes in but you can never connect - just a gray
Serverworks screen comes up - waits for a while and times out.

We went thru the agent install twice - never records messages in the
Event Viewer. On an NT machine here we see the agent starting in the
Event viewer. We have the agent and Manageworks/Serverworks manager
    on the same machine.

Also, w;hen NT starts, we get the infamous

    Event Dispatcher: Winsock Error
Setting up SNMP trap port=10048! Please check your
services file for an entry as follows: SNMP TRAP
    			162/UDP.

I'm familiar with this error - checked the services file but it has the
snmp trap entry set for 162/udp correctly.

I am convinced the agent isn't running on the NT but I can't seem to
get it to install. I even sent him the Agents zip file I got from the
web - used the i386 version.

    Any ideas what's wrong?

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Which Prioris Server?
    Which Version of Server Works?
Can you check the registry at
    \HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services for an entry
    of either SWLLSKA,SWOLDDRV,SWLLDRV,SWLLIND
    Let us know which?
Then look for the Service entry SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents
You should have Values for DIGCLAG,DIGHRAG,DIGPVAG,DIGSMAG.
    Are they all there?
    From the command prompt try
        net stop snmp
        net start snmp
Let us know if an error appears?
    If no error appears, try
        net stop snmp
net stop swlldrv - for Prioris ZX6
net stop swllind - for Prioris HX6
net stop swllska - for Prioris MX6
net stop swolddrv - for all other models
        net start (above choice)
        net start snmp

If there is still no error indication,

Edit the platform.cnf file found at winnt and change the
    entry for logging=no to logging=yes.
Now do a "net stop snmp" and a "net start snmp".
At the conclusion of the attempt to browse the server, send the file
swapi.log to me. It can be found in \winnt\system32\sw_logs\swapi.log.

    Thanks,

When you installed the agent software, did you install SNMP first?

After installing the host resource agent, did you go into the control
panel and have a looksee at Devices to verify that the Digital Server
works host resource agent was there? and started?

Is the server also the management station? Is it a PDC or BDC?

There are other things that could go wrong, but this is a start.
