223.0. "How to shut down NT before RSM power down ?" by ULYSSE::STRATMAN (Peter Stratman @VBO) Mon Mar 10 1997 10:13

    Hi,

    This has probably been discussed here already, but I haven't found any
    answers.

Q: Has anyone found a way to do an orderly shutdown of an NT server before
    powering down remotely using RSM ?

    An NT command level procedure would be OK.

    Thanks for any feedback,
    Peter.

223.1Workaround for shutdownPCBUOA::BRACKENMon Mar 10 1997 11:2911
    While connected to the Server with Remote Console activated, activated
    RSM Reset Window and use the Warm Boot Button(CTL-ALT-DEL) to cause the
    Windows NT Security window to activate if you are logged on. You will
    not see the window because RSM console does not show graphics but will
    accept keystrokes. Now use "Alt S" and Enter. This should shut down the
    system.

    In the next Version of RSM we plan to have drivers and shutdown
    capability.

223.2Thank you, but more questions...ULYSSE::STRATMANPeter Stratman @VBOMon Mar 10 1997 12:1916
    Rich,

    I understand, but you do everything "blindly", you don't see any error
    messages, you have to select between shutdown and shutdown and reboot,
    you don't know whether the systems really shut down,.. etc. I expect
    that customers running a production application may have trouble
    liking this.

    - Can an NT system be shut down cleanly with something like PCanywhere, or
    a script ?

    - Can product mgt provide me us with a tentative date for a new version
    support a bid ?

    Thanks,
    Peter.
223.3When will the RSM have graphics?PCBUOA::BRACKENFri Mar 14 1997 11:488
    Why not use PC Anywhere for Graphics console and RSM for text mode when
    the OS is down and you need to recover.

    Product Management is waiting on a schedule from Engineering who is
    waiting on approval of funds to start the next RSM project.

    If you want it to get started make more noise through management
    channels.
