Hi,
I have the same problem of above.
The Bios revision is 3.10 (I see it at POST) and the card is a
54-23136-01 rev F04.

How I can know the version of the Rom on the card?

Thanks Gabriele
174.6We need your help in defining the problemPCBUOA::BRACKENTue Feb 11 1997 14:2329
    In the View Status Window of the RSM Application you can see
    the S/W Version information which is described as:
         f.ww:e.bb:k:d
    where fw = firmware revision
          eb = extended bios revision
          k  = keyboard controller revision
          d  = diagnostic boot revision
    The 3.10 Extended BIOS was part of the RSM 1.0 Firmware you should 1st
    attempt to upgrade to 1.1 by installing and downloading the firmware an
    activity that is automatic on connection. This will upgrade fw and eb.

    If the upgrade to 1.1 solves your problem please let us know in this
    conference. We are all anxious to know. If it does not the other
    alternative is to have the k & d upgrades be done at the factory.

    Since this has not been seen often and if they give you problems, I'll
    attempt to arrange for an upgrade as a test site.

    We have not been able to reproduce this problem and are very anxious to
    know the result.

    If you don't have RSM 1.1 you can find it under \\jules\public share
        \rsm\kits\rsm-v1.1\disk1 & \disk2.

    Thanks for your cooperation,

174.7Problem to connectROMTSS::MATTACCHIONETue Feb 18 1997 10:0529
Hi Rich,
we are attempting to connect to RSM host but have a problem:

The Nt RSM server management station Display the error:

Initiating connection via serial port/modem
starting connection process on port com1
Initiating script: dial
Sending string <ATDT5211489/r>
Expecting string <CONNECT>
Script executed without error
connection attempt failed: connection with remote server
failed

We can see that the connection between modems goes on but no TX RX
led are blincking the activity.

We have found in the user guide (troubleshooting)that this problem
should be found in the server site reset or power cycle the controller.

We have made that but problem remain there.

Have you any help for us ?
Another little thing:
We have found in the srvm.scr file the layout of null modem cable 25-25 pins.
Do you have the layout for the 25-9 pins?

Many thanks Gabriele
174.8Pre-setup modemPCBUOA::BRACKENTue Feb 18 1997 11:1121
    On the null modem cable 9-25 pins, there is a description in the new
    Users Maunual for RSM. The support people also have a description that
    I can't seem to find now.

    The problem that you describe could be that the communications between
    the RSM port and the modem do not function properly. There several
    poosible reasons:
        1. Your modem cable is not a straight 25-25 pin cable.
        2. The modem has not been setup to answer calls ATS0=1.
        3. The fixed speed of 38,400bps was not used when setting up the
    modem.
        4. The modem does not accept the default setup string that RSM
    sends it when the card gets reset ATE0&C1&D2S0=1.

    I recommend that you enter these values from a terminal emulator
    running at 38400bps and if you get OK from the modem save it away
    in the factory default. Normally this command is AT&W or AT&W0.

    Please refer to your modem guide.

174.9Cheked but no changeROMTSS::MATTACCHIONEWed Feb 19 1997 09:0019
I have repeated the point 1,2,3,4 of reply.8 but the problem
don't change (rsm side).

To connect the modem to rsm card I have used the 25-25 pin connector
included in the rsm kit (p/n 17-04169-01).

However I suppose that the speed f 38400 is not possible for the
telephone line characteristic, then modem communicate between at a
slowly speed.

P.S.
Customer has bought 12 Rsm card and the keyboard lock problem
is on every Pc.

Thanks for your help

>I have repeated the point 1,2,3,4 of reply.8 but the problem
>don't change (rsm side).

Please setup all modems from a terminal emulator program before placing them
at the RSM connection. This will assure the modem settings remain permanent.
Insure the com port n NT is setup at 38400, 8bit, no-parity, H/W Flow Control,
and FIFO enabled then set up the modem and write the setup string
permanently away using ATE0&C1&D2S0=1&W. (Check your modem guide to insure the
modem supports these commands).

>To connect the modem to rsm card I have used the 25-25 pin connector
>included in the rsm kit (p/n 17-04169-01).
 OK.

>However I suppose that the speed f 38400 is not possible for the
>telephone line characteristic, then modem communicate between at a
>slowly speed.
 Wrong, this speed is DTE-DCE(terminal to modem acress the wire).
 Did you make sure you conected the modem and had power and cable connected
 before the RSM card had power. Try resetting the card which will send the
 setup string "ATE0&C1&D2S0=1" to the modem at 38400 bps. The reset switch on the
 card is shorting the 2 pins to the left of J10(10 - pins).

>P.S.
>Customer has bought 12 Rsm card and the keyboard lock problem
>is on every Pc.
 What you are describing so far is not the keyboard lock problem but
 rather the connect problem. Do you also have a keyboard lock problem?
 Please, let me know if it goes away with the upgrade to RSM 1.1.

 If you still have problems connecting change the rs_ppm.ini file to
 log the com port. This is done by adding the l option as in:
      com1=zoom:oa to com1=zoom:oal
 Then send me at bracken2@mail.dec.com the result file com1lm.lml.

Thanks,

Rich
174.11Setup Modem ...ROMTSS::MATTACCHIONEWed Feb 19 1997 14:4270
I have follow your instructions:

I have reviewed the Nt port setting for 38400 speed 8bit noparity h/w
flow control and FIFO enabled.
I have resend the setting from a terminal emulation that have the above
setting (excluding the FIFO,abviously), ATE0&c1&d2s0=1&w.
My modem in this side is a Us Robotics Sportster Voice.

Then I have reset the RSM card on the other NT server system in the following
way:
Shutdown the pc
Disconnect the external RSM power.
Short the 2 pins to the left of J10 connector.
Reconnect external RSM power.
Restart the Nt server.

The modem on this side is a US Robotics Courier.

I have modified the rs_pm.ini file for the l flag

Then I have attempt the connection.

Nothing is changed.
I have send the file to you via mail.

I have attached below some file that can be important for the setting.
Probably I have some mistache in it !?!

If you want more detail ask it to me .

174.12US Robotics scripts neededPCBUOA::BRACKENWed Feb 19 1997 17:386
    You are using the ATT Data Port Scripts for US Robotics. The registers
    may be entirely different. I have no experience with US robotics except
    that I tried an old model that always changed the DTE-DCE speed on a
    disconnect. Can you check with European support to see if someone has
    a set of scripts for US robotics.

174.13US Robotic script insertedROMTSS::MATTACCHIONEThu Feb 20 1997 09:5224
Hi Rich,

I have rewrite the USRobotics connection script seeing note 121.1 in this
conference and rechecking with modem manual every "at" command.

Then I have attempt to reconnect but the problem is the same.
I don't know what appen after the two modems are in connecting status.
The CD signal is on and also the other tipical signals except
RX and TX.

My impression is that are missing an other(s) step in the Connection Actions.
I have insert the followings:

Port		 COM1
Telephone        12345
Script 		dial
Speed 		38400

If you want I will send another mail with the new log file.

Thanks Gabriele

174.14Check out another modemPCBUOA::BRACKENThu Feb 20 1997 10:4614
    I don't think you have the same model US Robotics modem. Can you check
    the modem manual to make sure you are using H/W Flow Control and be
    sure you setup the modem at the RSM side and save away the defaults
    at the speed of 38,400 into the modem.

    Your Connection Actions should be:
         Telephone=9999
         Include=dial

    The speed of 38400 gets set after the connection. I don't think this is
    your problem but it could be.

    Try getting a protocol analyzer setup between the RSM card and the
    modem.

174.16Update Firmware,same problemROMTSS::MATTACCHIONEMon Mar 03 1997 14:0833
Hi,

I have obtained a good connection via a null modem cable.
Then the firmware was updated at S/W version 3.45:3.14:2:5

The Keyboard problem is the same.

Keyboard sometimes hangs and is not possible comunicate with system.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard connector the problem
goes away.

However report below the error found in Nt 3.51 Event Viewer :

Exceeded the allowable number of retries (configurable via the registry)
on device \Device\KeyboardPort0.

Could not set the keyboard indicator lights.

Could not set the keyboard typematic rate and delay.

Refering to 174.4 I have to change the Keyboard Controller but to do that
I need the 44 pin extracting tool to replace the device.

I have 8 RSM card in my city,Rome, and other 4 in Milan.

What you need I do :

Send back the board for upgrade
or
require tool and keyboard controller?

Thanks Gabriele
174.17Try 1 replacement RSMPCBUOA::BRACKENMon Mar 03 1997 18:4529
    Hi Gabriele,

    I asked the manufacturing representative what the proper procedure
    should be and here is his response:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi Rich,

    You should have them call in Field Service to replace the board.
    Manufacturing is not in a position to support the field with
    replacement parts.

    Rgds,

    Dave
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Since, we have never been able to reproduce this problem in our lab,
    I would suggest to get one board upgraded with the keyboard controller
    Version 10 and make sure it works.

    If this is the solution, then go through with the remianing
    modifications. If not let me know and I will walk you through a series
    of diagnostics to determine the cause.

    Thanks,

    Rich

174.18New card is olderROMTSS::MATTACCHIONEFri Mar 07 1997 12:0916
Hi ,

I have replace the RSM card but the new have same old version 3.10
and the card show revision F03 (my board show F04!!)

How I can require a board with a newest firmware?

Another little thing.

I have checked that problem appear only if I power off the machine
and then power up.
A new boot without a power off sequence don't have the problem.

Gabriele

    What is the Version of the Keyboard Controller? The last entry on the
    S/W Versions of the Status Window.
    I don't know why you have not received an upgraded board; will inquire
    at Manufacturing rep.
174.20Reply from ManufacturingPCBUOA::BRACKENFri Mar 07 1997 16:4523
    Rich,

    You may recall we decided to put only the RSM shipping with the Loudon
    product on hold. It was felt customers would be able to upgrade the
    product in the field.

    The ECO to upgrade the RSM board has been issued for some time now but
    the leadtime of the keyboard controller is long. Taiwan has just
    received the keyboard contoller. I have a call into Irvine to check
    status on when they will get keyboard controllers. If they won't get
    these parts shortly we can arrange to have Taiwan ship upgraded RSM
    boards to Irvine.

    I am hearing from Rick Fayard (supply) that this keyboard controller
    has possibly gone EOL. He is checking further on this.

    I will get back to you on what we plan to do to get Irvine's RSM boards
    updated.

    Rgds,

    Dave
