2884.0. "CLS listener read security file at startup or connect?" by WHOS01::ELKIND (Steve Elkind, Digital SI @WHO) Thu May 22 1997 01:57

Does the CLS listener re-read the CLS security file at each connection
request, or only at startup? If the latter, can it be asked to re-read
    via dmqmonc or other means?

We plan to start using the security file, and need to know whether
adding a new workstation will require us to either kill and restart the
CLS, or, since we depend on group shutdown to terminate CLS processes,
    "bounce" the DmQ group.

    Thanks

The V3.2 CLS reads the file on startup. You can use the client CLS Security
Utility ( on Windows ) to update the security file and tell the CLS to
reload it. No need to shut down the CLS.

Unfortunately we don't have Windows (this is an all-Unix shop). Is
there a Unix version, or perhaps an API we can make use of?

Try using the event watcher with the security admin utility - I think
it just sends a message to the CLS program to force the reload.
