2809.0. "BEA or Digital" by OZROCK::PERKINS (Some contractors, their sex-life destroyed and overwhelmed by project pressures, turn to snorting quack.) Tue Mar 11 1997 21:55

Just curious about the current status is DMQ now BEA's
property?? If not when will it happen?? Will BEA still be
allowed access to our internal network?? Will we be
allowed access to the BEA internal network?? What does "Digital
Confidential" mean in this situation???

When is someone/anyone going to explain to us how we are
suppose to deal with BEA and this situation... warm and
fuzzy announcements don't help us (the field) understand
the parameters of the "partnership"... are we suppose to
get information from BEA on product information ... what do
we do with product requirements how are they tracked... how is
the decision made about requirements becoming product .. who is
doing this... how do we get bugs fixed ... what is the escalation
process ... who looks after this ... how is it tracked and resolved
if unsatisfactory ... how do we get kits ... can we get all kits
or only digital ... what new products ... enhancements ... patch kits

Is this conference a BEA conference or Digital Internal??
If it is BEA where is the Digital conference and what
policy will control access to it??
If it is Digital Internal then who is the moderator and what
policy will control access to it??
Thanks Kevin (suffering from a void since the initial announcement
but now wondering how i'm suppose to deal with calls from BEA CEOs and
CTOs?????)

the short of it is that noboday knows. everytime we
ask a question of BEA or Digital we get back blank
stares and things like "we don't have that information
right now", or "we're working on that" without men-
tion of any dates when said information will become
available. so if you are looking for that warm and fuz-
zy feeling, then join the club, because we here in
engineering don't know what is going on ourselves.

re: .0

...from the planning I have been involved in:

	- There shouldn't be any significant change in the way DmQ
Engineering is part of the Digital's ENET when we transition
to BEA. This should continue unchanged for 1-2 months until
we cut over to BEA's internal network.

	- We will be looking into leaving behind PAMSRC to continue as
the host for NOTEs, netkits and other related materials. It
is unclear how much direct access will have to this node.
Most likely the CSC will take over as moderators for the
	  conference.

	- Digital CSC will continue to provide level I and II customer
support with DmQ Engineering providing support to CSC.

	- As a result of not being directly on the ENET I suspect that any
patches will have to be funneled through the CSC.

	- Digital and BEA are business partners and as a result Digital
will continue to have an influence on DmQ's product directions.

	- The netkit availability I expect to continue, although I am not
sure if the License PAKs will switch to being a royalty style
	  like Motif.

	- There will still be a number Digital people tasked with handling
	  Digital/BEA product issues like IPMTs.

Hopefully the rest of the open issues will addressed in the next couple of
months.

2809.4Any update on the items in .3?BEAVER::MCKEATINGWed May 14 1997 13:5814
Marty,

it is now a few months since .3 and looks like most of the team have transfered.

what is the status of this notes file and the monitoring on problems etc?

Whether it is right or wrong people will continue to post problem reports
here and expect a quality and speed of service they have recieved previous
until someone clarifies what the problem reporting and support processes
is.

thanks in advance,

Bob McKeating

notes is not an official support channel and comes with no
guarantee regarding "quality and speed of service". other
official channels will be put in place BEFORE the existing
channels (QAR, IPMT, CSC) are terminated (if they are
    terminated at all).
