2772.0. "Automatic reset of counters every minut" by UTRTSC::BARK () Fri Feb 14 1997 12:04

    Hello,

    Customer uses DMQ OpenVMS V3.2-22 and sometimes they have a lot of
    Automatic reset of counters entries in de com server log file.
    Customer says that sometimes he sees this every minut and for a whole
    day long.

    I looked for some info on this but could not find anything about
    controlling the reset interval or something like that.

    Regards,

2772.1Does the customer use any scripts or batch job reporting?BEAVER::MCKEATINGFri Feb 14 1997 12:159
I have only seen this info in the log file in conjunction with the options
available from the DECmessageQ menus.

? does the customer have any batch jobs that run and take a snap shot
of the q counters then reset then...

just a thought.

2772.2Also slipped my mindUTRTSC::BARKFri Feb 14 1997 12:5519
    Bob,

    This is also something that slipped my mind but resetting via DMQMENU
    log the following message.

    Received a request to reset the counters

    So it's something in DMQ wich does the automatic reset but the question
    is what triggers the automatic reset? and why is it triggered every
    minute?

    Thanks,

    Henk.

    PS. It's the EVL log in wich the message is written.

2772.3Why the automatic ctr reset...KLOVIA::MICHELSENDECmessageQ EngineeringFri Feb 14 1997 14:189
re: .0

  An automatic counter reset is performed every time any single msg counter
exceeds 2,000,000,000. This checked for once a minute. Since you are seeing
this logged once a minute the counter reset code must not be zeroing all of the
counters that are checked. Please logged a QAR.

2772.4No need for additional info/logging?UTRTSC::BARKFri Feb 14 1997 15:128
    Marty,

    Is there something I can do to supply extra info for that QAR or should
    I just take a look at the counters via DMQMENU and maybe one isn't
    reset.
    Or try a manual reset to see if thats solves the problem

    Henk.

	  No, that should be enough information to track down the problem.

	  I doubt that a manual reset will do since that is exactly what
	is being performed every time the auto-reset event is logged.
