    Hello,
    
    My name is Enrique Pelaez from SI Mexico.
    
    We are working in a project where we need to
    communicate with an access server (AB8000 from
    3COM) through X.25. 
    
    Our configuration is based on a TrueCluster (production
    Server) of a couple of AlphaServer 4100 5/400 using
    Memory Channel.
    
    The Access Server and the Truecluster environment are
    located on the same computer room, that means we will use
    a couple of modem eliminators between the access server X.25 port 
    and our Synchronous controller (DNSES-AA). 
    
    The problem here is we need our AlphaServers wok as DCE.
    
    Questions:
    - Is it possible to configure our Synchronous controller as a DCE?
    
    - Are there any special issues we must take in account when we
      configure Syncronous controllers in a TrueCluster environment
      based on AlphaServer 4100 5/400 systems?
    
    
    Just to mention this is a transaction application where the POS (Point
    of sales) will dial up to the Access Server (which supports 240 modems)
    and the requirement is to have a X.25 link between such device and our 
    Hosts ( in a High availability configuration) in order to receive the
    transactions.

	Hello again, Does anyone knows if PBXDP PCI/Synchronous Communication Controller is supported on the AlphaServer 4100 5/400? If the answer is yes, I have the same questions (.0) for this controller. Making a review of the description of such controller I just saw that is supported on the AlphaServer 1000!! Thanks in advance and best regards Enrique

Anyway I have the following questions: I'm curious about what function the Access Server (AB8000 from 3COM) provides. Why not have the UNIX boxes acting as the Access Server also? If you really need the 3COM box acting as your front end, and it is co-located with the AlphaServers, why do you want to use Sync Comms on the AlphaServers? If you decide on the DNSES, then you only need to run the ECU from the console. There are no other configuration issues. The PBXDP is even simpler. I am guessing you want this feature for some sort of automagic load balancing? If this is the case, then it will be up to the customer to work this out. It will depend very much on the capabilities of the 3COM box too.
