| Hello again,
Does anyone knows if PBXDP PCI/Synchronous Communication Controller
is supported on the AlphaServer 4100 5/400?
If the answer is yes, I have the same questions (.0) for this
controller.
Making a review of the description of such controller I just saw
that is supported on the AlphaServer 1000!!
Thanks in advance and best regards
Enrique

| Hi Enrique,
(This is in reply to your EM, which seems to be the same as your note).

Did you also know we support a 4-port PCI controller, PBXDP-AB. This
would mean you only need one controller.

I may be confused about your network configuration, or just don't
understand what the 3COM box does.... Anyway I have the following
questions:
I'm curious about what function the Access Server (AB8000 from 3COM)
provides. Why not have the UNIX boxes acting as the Access Server also?
If you really need the 3COM box acting as your front end, and it is
co-located with the AlphaServers, why do you want to use Sync Comms on
the AlphaServers? If the 3COM box supports LAN access, than it would be
better to use LLC2.

When do you need it by? We have an EFT version available now, but the
schedule currently has the product shipping in early May. If the
customer is wanting to run up a test environment for proof of concept,
our EFT kit will suffice for that. If they want to go straight into
production then I suggest they wait 'till May, (though if they don't
mind gambling a little, an EFT-update is scheduled for end of March).

See above.
>> 2) When V3.0 of such product will be released?
See above.

If you decide on the DNSES, then you only need to run the ECU from the
console. There are no other configuration issues. The PBXDP is even
simpler. You just plug it in and away you go.
>> 4) Is it possible to configure the AlphaServers in DCE

Yes.
>> 5)If the answer to 4) is yes, It would be possible to

No. Each port must have a unique address. I am guessing you want this
feature for some sort of automagic load balancing? If this is the case,
then it will be up to the customer to work this out. It will depend
very much on the capabilities of the 3COM box too.
Can you explain in more detail the purpose behind having each port
addressed the same?

Participate, participate participate! :-)
>>I really appreciate your help
Your welcome.
Regards,
Matt.
