865.0. "Change to K via npl -update ?" by CHEFS::ELLERBY_J () Thu Feb 13 1997 03:01

I am currently trying to 'fix' a problem we have with an Alpha to DECnis
LLC2 link which then relays on to a LAPB back to back Ericsson switch
    connection.

We are running the Ericsson MTP protocol over the link from Alpha to
Ericsson, but the LAPB link (DECnis to Ericsson) is periodically restarted
I am trying to obtain accurate traces of the problem currently.

However, in the mean time Ericcsson have suggested we set level 2 K to
value 2 rather than the default 7 of ISO8208. Unfortunately this is
not possible so I can't ry this option out currently. I believe I might
be able to 'hack' K to be set to value 2 via npl -update option, but
I've no idea how this works or what version of npl I need to do this.
Any clues on where I can get a suitable version of npl and then what I
must do to try setting K to 2 for ISO8208 ?

The ISO8208 profile is loaded into the DECnis so I'm assuming the
DECnis and X.25 for Digital UNIX share the same profile files.

I'm looking to try this out as a temporary fix while we chase Ericsson
down for more input on the problem.

    Thanks,

    Jed

The ISO8208 profile sets the minimum LAPB window size to 7.

The ISO8802 profile is essentially similar to ISO8208 but has a minimum
LAPB window size of 1 and a retransmit timer default of 0 and range
of 0 to 0 (presumably this will mean no default and no limit).
On UNIX this profile is unusable because the Ack timer can't be changed
from 0; however on the DECnis??

 	Correct.

I suspect you need a trace OR confirmation from Ericsson that they
have configured their switch for a window size of <7. The normal
configuration requirement is for equal window sizes at both ends.
