1217.0. "Private Parts" by WMOIS::CHAPALONIS_M (NEW YORK YANKEES WORLD CHAMPS) Wed Feb 19 1997 15:06

Howard Sterns life story comes out on March 7th. You don't have
to be a closet Stern fan anymore. Let your friends know you listen.

Its a Comedy as well as some Romance thrown in. Sterns whole radio
family is in it , and Mary Maccormick plays his wife. There are sneak
previews all over the country starting next week.

The critics love it. It's been getting tremendous reviews.

      GO SEE IT!!!

I saw this last week and pretty good. You don't need to be a fan of Howard or
his show to like it. In fact, Joel Seigel said he liked the movie so much he
decided to check out Howard's E! show. Apparently, Joel still is not a fan of
the show.

The movie tells a good story, is pretty upbeat and entertaining. It's not very
shocking, as some might expect. It really is a good "date movie".

People who read the book raved about that too. A friend and his wife offered to
let me borrow it, but they lent it out and never got it back.

I heard/read that Howard was offered another role by producer Betty Thomas, this
time not to play himself. I wonder if "Miss America" will be made into a sequel.

If you see the movie, there are two extra comedy bits after the credits start,
so you may want to stay seated. At the show I was at, most people stopped in the
aisle to watch them, so you really couldn't leave even if you wanted to.

Took my girlfriend/wife the other day, she HATES Howards radio show. The
movie had her laughing out loud. She actually said, "That was a VERY funny
movie and I wouldn't mind seeing again in case I missed something the first
time." Love him or hate him, go see thew movie, it is FUNNY.

    Saw it opening weekend.

First off, yeah, it made #1 that weekend. But it only made $15M and
had no real competition. $15M is not blockbuster stats these days
    for opening weekend.

Second, yeah it was a Howard movie non-fans could love. EXACTLY the
problem. Now, I'm not enamored with modern-day Howard. I used to
love him, loved his TV show, loved his radio. But he's definitely
a "kinder, gentler" Howard these days. Which, in my opinion, makes
    him a little more boring.

The movie had some great bits, no question, some funny stuff. But
I miss the old Howard, the one everybody thought was disgusting.

I like the kinder, gentler Howard; I didn't like him a year
or two ago, he was always too ... something.

So, I saw the movie last Friday night and it was a riot!

I've got to agree with Sean in .4... Howard has been boring ever
since his original outrageous syndicated TV show (which I believe
originated at WWOR in New Jersey) went off the air. When was that,
late 1980s or very early 1990s?

I tried out his radio show this morning, as a kind of "litmus test"
to indicate whether I'd see the movie. He was about to do a little
on-air "Jeopardy" kind of game with his staff. Aha, great, I thought.
Shades of his old "Homeless Hollywood Squares", perhaps?

But no, not only did he do "straight questions", many of them were
hard! Harder than the real Jeopardy! :-) He sounded more like
Groucho doing "You Bet Your Life" than the wild old Howard of
    yesteryear.

I'm not sure what's worse, Howard selling out to Hollywood or
Dennis Miller selling out to M&M's. :-)

Just saw it myself -- thought it was hilarious. Yes, his radio show
has slipped some but I don't get to hear the best parts anyway -- I
used to like the gags at the beginning of the show and the news at the
end, not so much the celebrity inteverviews in the middle. But that's
what I get when I'm driving in.

But a resounding thumbs up on the movie -- I was laughing very loudly.
    3.5 *'s out of 4.
