1051.0. "Executive Decision" by WMOIS::LYONS_S () Mon Mar 18 1996 15:25

    Has anyone seen "Executive Decision"? It opened this past weekend? I
    was surprised to see who was in it. I can't picture Kurt Russel
    working with Steven Seagal. (Then again I couldn't picture
    Slater/Travolta together either and I like Broken Arrow).

    Any opinions on the film? Trying to decide if it's another Seagal wait
    for video to see it movie or if Kurt Russel is enough to carry it for
    me to go to the theatre?

    To those who don't know the premise of the movie....this is what I get
    from the previews.

    Large plane taken over by terrorists. Plane loaded with lethal gas
    that could wipe out the Eastern seaboard. Russel and Seagal come to
    the rescue with an in-air attempt to foil the nasty plan.

    Thanks in advance for any reviews and also any additions/corrections to
    the premise of the movie.

    	Well, for reasons I won't go into for fear of irking the "spoiler
    	warning" people, it's definitely not a Steven Seagal movie.

    Starts out kinda slow, but picks up. I enjoyed it.

    Both Siskel and Ebert gave it thumbs up (which was surprising to me).
    They felt it was both an action movie and a spoof of one, but that it
    was entertaining throughout.

         Five stars, at least the first time I saw it. I imagine it won't
    be as good the second time, because of all the surprises. It kept me on
    the edge of my seat. The stunts were great, even if the plot was kind
    of shaky in places. I expected it to be more like "Under Seige", but it
    actually turned out better. This movie is intense, if not quite
    believable.

1051.5Segal is limited!STRATA::GARRITYWed Mar 20 1996 04:025
     I haven't seen this movie yet but from what I understand Steven Segal
    has a limited role in this one. This is definetly a Kurt Russel film.
    If you notice in the credits they have that "and Steven Segal". So that
    tells me right away that he isn't the main character.

    The less we see of Steven Seagal, the better. I may actually go and
    see this one in the vain hope that he gets blown up or something.

1051.7Fun, fun, funSTAR::MDNITE::RIVERSNo commentTue Mar 26 1996 18:1016
    It was pretty good -- one of the best "keep 'em in suspense" action
    movies I've seen in quite a while. There WERE some plot holes and some
    very obvious plot threads (you know, the kind where a minor character
    is introduced, there is the skimpiest little background bit and you
    know the minor character will get dead real soon as a sympathy thing
    :), but overall, I had a great deal of fun. Certainly a movie I
    wouldn't mind seeing more than once. Kurt Russell did a pretty good
    job. The fact that he spends about half the movie in a tux didn't
    hurt. :)
