975.0. "From Dusk till Dawn" by COMICS::SHELLEY (Thats all I have to say about that) Sat Dec 02 1995 14:49

Being a Tarantino fan and a keen Harley rider I was very interested to
read that he is starring as a biker in a new film called Dusk to Dawn.
Much of the film was apparently filmed in some of the most notorious
    bike bars in southern California.

Has anyone got more details about this ?

I believe they play two hoodlums who find themselves stuck in a place
full of vampires, as opposed to being vampires themselves.

I saw a small piece about this movie the other day.The story is kinda
    like..

Quentin and George are two bank robbing bothers. They stop in a nightclub
while on the run which is full of regular people and vampires. Its a
    fight to stay human.

"Dusk to Dawn" is the name of the nightclub, and those are the
    	hours of operation of same.

Well, it's not the name of the club, only the opening hours. This is
worth matinee price if you want to see what Quentin Tarantino was
writing on his way to Resevoir Dogs and if Robert Rodriguez can direct
anything besides films about Mexicans with weird firearms. The jury is
still out on the latter. Anyone who agrees with Bob Dole on the state
of American cinema ought to give this a miss, because it is violent,
gory, and vulgar as all get out.

Two stars out of five. Let's hope this doesn't torpedo Clooney's movie
    career.

For those considering wasting 7 dollars on this movie - dont. I went
to see this movie over the weekend and we ended up in this movie
because the others were sold out. The first part of the movie was
not too bad, kind of a thriller. When they get to the bar scene
were the vampires were the movie was awful.

If you like body parts flying around, fake guts everywhere you will like
this movie. We left before the movie ended and I have never walked
    out on a movie before....

i just wrote a note saying that i thought this movie was dull right up
until they got to the 'bar'..and then i deleted is as i noticed that i
forgot to put a spoiler in...something the previous noter didn't do....
the gist of it was that not all movies are war and peace...and this movie
is full of gore etc..but the special effects are very good and you might
enjoy this movie if you're into, tarantino type films....and alot of
tongue in cheek humor................sometimes you just have to let art
    'flow' over you.........;"))))........./k...

going to like it! :')

    Yep, I liked it!

Note: may contain a spoiler or two...

Definately not a movie for everyone though. If you gross out easily,
or are opposed to violent movies, don't see it.

You forgot: Cheech Marin... in 3 different roles!
And I'd also add Juliet Lewis. She may act the same in all her roles,
but she's fitting somehow. She even changed in this one, from
innocent "cape fear" like character to crossbow weilding vamipire
killer a la Natural Born Killers.

George Clooney was great in this. I don't think I've ever seen him in
anything else, so I don't know what to compare him to, but he played
his character perfectly. On the other hand, I'm beginning to think
Quentin Tarantino isn't a very good actor. But he writes/directs great
    movies!

Why? Was this written before Reservior Dogs?

Funny you mention that. There *was* a weird firearm in it. There was
what looked like a sawed off shotgun, with this loop of metal in place
of the uh... part underneath the barrel, that you use to cock it.
(whatever it's called). A piece of wood was stuck through it
horizontally so that it formed a cross that could be used to shoot with
    if leveled at a target.

    > If you like body parts flying around, fake guts everywhere you will
    > like this movie.

Fake exploding guts... and lets hope they were fake! :')

They kinda did overdo it a little at one point, but hey, it's a movie!
Kind of like cinematic masturbation I think, for Quentin Tarantino.

I saw this film the other day and i loved it.

George Clooney was brilliant, it's his first film since being in ER and
filmed it whilst also filming ER. I understand in one scene when he is
looking at Tarantino's bloodied hand, he was looking at it the way Dr
Ross would and so they had to refilm it with him not looking so worried
    about it.

    re -1
I don't think Tarantino can act,he always seems a bit stiff,
although his performance in From Dusk Til Dawn is his best to date.

He writes a mean script.I was good the way it went from a standard
Tarantino script (swearing/shooting kinda thing) into a tarantino
vampire script (the same as before w/ vampires included).

I love Rodriguez films. Talking about wierd guns. The cod piece mini
cannon thingy, isn't that in Desperado?

Good old Harvey Kietal was excellent as Jacob, the minister who had
    lost faith.

    Easily an 8 bordering on a 9

Apparently, George Clooney was juggling filming schedules between this
and ER and learning the scripts for his next part in the car between
sets (I assume he slept somewhere in there too) so he was quite often
slipping into his Ross character when on the set of "dusk" and this set
    back filming a bit.

I loved the codpiece cannon and the introduction scene:

    "what's your name?"

    "Kate. what's yours?"

"sex machine. Pleased to meet you"

BTW, the guy wearing the codpiece cannon is Tom Savini. He did the
makeup for Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, as well as a bunch of other
    horror films.

    Just useless trivia....

I'd love to know who gets the job of mangling these movie titles. As
I've quoted before in this conference, they must spend hours coming up
with a title so lame, only the most brain-dead would go to see the
movie. I mean really, "Innocent blood" becomes "A french vampire in
America"??? that's the most pathetic title adaptation I've seen this
    month!

I believe the previous noter was referring to the title change of
"Innocent Blood" to "A French Vampire in America" rather than anything
to do with "From Dusk till Dawn".

Let's not pursue the title-change rathole here.
