Haven't seen it but I hear it's catching a lot of flack because it does not
follow the book faithfully.

Of course many movies take liberties with a story taken from a novel but
because this one is considered a classic people seem a bit more sensitive.

I don't mind if they alter the story a bit but if they change it
dramatically then it gets a little annoying.

Hollywood doesn't like sad endings thats probably why they changed the
    end of the movie.

Like the James Bond movies, the only resemblence that the screenplay
has to the book it's "based" on is the title (and the character names).

the commercials make it look like they are selling it as a sexy movie
for the younger crowds with Demi Moore and Gary Oldman rolling around
    starkers.

I didn't See "The Scarlet Letter" but I think I would have been more drawn to
seeing it if they stuck with the story line in the book - because it's a
classic. Also, Demi Moore isn't my favorite actress to say in the least. I
was dissapointed when I heard it was being done with her and they had changed
the story. I'd love to see it done with a different actress and following
the book. Just my opion.....
