953.1Yes, I admit to loving these filmsKAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKYTue Oct 10 1995 15:3012
    No, no, no, no, no! Please no! I love the "Planet of the Apes"
    movies. They're fine just as they are. I've watched these movies
    since childhood over and over on t.v. during Sunday matinees and
    during the late night movies.

    What's Arnold going to do in them? I can't recall any swearing and
    there's no shoot 'em up scenes. Sure, there were a few chase/hunting
    them down scenes and awful experimentation going on ...

    This news truly dissapoints me. I hope you are misinformed.

I think the base note might have been a joke (see smily face at end).
The way I took it was Arnold is kinda like an "ape"... at least in
body size, etc.

953.3yes they are!MAL009::RAGUCCITue Oct 10 1995 23:4212

    Yes, they do plan on remaking Planet of the Apes, and with Arnold too!

    Maybe it will turn out ok. I saw it as a kid in '68 (?) @ the movies
    and was in awe! Way ahead of its time!

    They also are remaking the Island of Dr. Moreau.

    I read a report that Oli Stone is involved, and the plot is
    re-jigged...

    spoiler...(although I have no idea how accurate this is)

    Arnie goes back in time, to find that Apes rule the earth. Mankind is
    about to die-out due to a genetic disease (kind of a genetic time bomb)
    which was implanted by the Apes, (then the apes died out, we evolved
    possibly helped by the Apes), and Arnie has to save the day.

953.6Where there only three in the series?KAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKYWed Oct 11 1995 14:278
    Bob, Re: .3

    	I was trying to figure out when these movies came out. I saw them
    on television and if I remember correctly I must have been around 10
    years old at the time. They were very "modern" movies for the late
    60's early 70's ... goodness how things have changed in the 20+ since.

5 if I remember correctly...

Planet of the Apes
Beyond the Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the Apes
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Battle for the Planet of the Apes

I think these are the right titles... and in order...

    The second film was Beneath the Planet of the Apes, not beyond. Also I
    think that the last two were the other way round ie Battle the
    Conquest.

	Well in the original MOVIES conference (which sadly didn't survive
	because Tony never backed it up :-(() I had asked this very
	question, got the above response, and then another noter corrected
	and said there were only 3 in the original theatrical series.
	The others supposedly were made-for-TV style movies and/or part
	of the TV series.
953.11I want to know more....KAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKYWed Oct 11 1995 15:405
    I also believe the second movie is called "Beneath the Planet of the
    Apes". If I remember it was the one where they discovered the subway
    beneath ground.

    re. 10
    that order is right. The first 2 were good, "Conquest stunk, the others
    I never wanted to see.
    I am pretty sure that 1968 was the year "Planet came out.
    Costume design was up for an Oscar.(They didn't have Best-Make-up then)
    I will be looking forward to the re-make!

    Trivia? who palyed Zira? (sp.?)

    come on Apes!

As others have stated... the 2nd isn't "Beyond" but "Beneath".

Also, Conquest did come before Battle. Conquest was the one with Mr. Fantasy
Island guy who played the owner of the baby ape from "Escape"...

I know for a fact the last 2 were not part of the TV series, and I would be
very surprised if they were made-for-TV as well, but it is possible. My
favorites were the 1st two... the scared and deformed humans in the 2nd
always scared me as a kid. The most boring was "Escape". "Conquest" was
fair, but "Battle" stunk and was boring too...

    Sorry Patricia, I wasn't kidding about this remake!
    However, I think that Arnold could do a good job.
    I could see him doing amodern version in the Charlton Heston Role.

953.18I've thought of this all weekKAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKYFri Oct 13 1995 14:199
    Chris ... I hate to admit this but I'm growing fond of the idea of
    a remake. The only sad state of affairs is that I doubt they will
    keep the movie as clean of violence as the originals. I think I have
    a copy of "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" somewhere. I will have
    do dig it out this weekend and watch once again.

    It would be great if they could use the original costumes.

    Yeah!! Mark Leonard could still be General Ursus
    Roddy is still around to do Cornelius
    Charlton could do a cameo

    Kim Hunter....don't know if she is around still..

    could be fun....but most likely won't happen

    BUT:

    more than likely, a bunch of Arnie's bodybuilding buddies will get
    cameo's ( they are in all of his movies )

953.20Your right.MAL009::RAGUCCITue Oct 17 1995 19:2110

    Kim Hunter did play Zira:
    Kim was the original Stella in "A streetcar named Desire: on stage in
    the late '40's & the film version, both with Brando. She was great
    for that time, also won an Oscar! and, she didn't have to show any T&A!
    not sure if she's still alive.
    Arnold would be good for the remake, except he should brush up on his
    English.  10-17-95.
