948.0. "Moonlight and Valentino" by TNPUBS::MARCO () Mon Oct 02 1995 14:25

Must have been bad movie karma that sent me to this film. It was one of the
worst films that I have seen in a long time. The writing was terrible, the
acting was nonexistent and the direction and cinemotograhy were sloppy and
uneven. I do not remember who the director was but I will find out if only
to make sure I avoid any such wastes of time in the future.

It is about a woman (Elizabeth Perkins) whose husband is killed while jogging
and how she deals with her grief and guilt. Friends (Whoopi Goldberg) and
family, (Kathleen Turner and Gwyneth Paltrow) bumble their way through providing
emotional support to her. Peter Coyote has this very tiny role as Whoopi's
husband. He has few lines and no real significance to the storyline, what
little there is of one. Jon Bon Jovi has a fairly silly role as a house painter
who is the romantic interest. Whoopi and Kathleen Turner go through the entire
film with this stupid grin on their faces, obviously from sheer embarrassment.

We unfortunately stayed through the syrupy and nonsensical end. Treacle is too
sour compared with it. This is not even a film to rent, especially if you have
any respect for any member of the cast.

Out of a possible five, I would give it one star.

Btw, Valentino is the housepainter's dog.
