703.0. "Videodrome" by BUSY::BUSY::SLABOUNTY (Thailboat!!) Wed Nov 23 1994 13:37

    	What was that "virtual reality" movie that was out in the
    	70's/80's, starring [I think] Roy Scheider and Debbie Harry?

    	"Altered Images" doesn't sound right, but that's all I can
    	come up with.

    	Thanks!!

    I think that was James Woods, not Roy Schieder, in "Videodrome".

    Perhaps Altered States. I remember the commercials made a big deal
    of the computer assisted alterations that went on. Looked wierd.

    	No, "Altered States" was my 1st guess but that was the one
    	with William Hurt and the "chemical bathtub".

    	"Videodrome" it is ... thanks!!

    Great flick! Directed by David Cronenberg (Scanners, Rabid, Dead
    Zone).

I believe the only chemical that may have been in the bathtub was salt (to
make him more buoyant). It was a sensory deprivation tank in which he was
supposed to float and hallucinate (because the senses had nothing better to do
or something). I remember around the time of that movie coming out a few
places opening up around Boston where one could go to float.
