460.0. "Clue" by 54797::BOEREN () Tue Feb 08 1994 11:27

    A short time ago I saw a rather old movie ( 1985-1986, I guess ) called
CLUE. I think it was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
It's the movie, they based the game "CLUEDO" upon.

    Summary:
7 people are invited to a mansion, for a reason they don't know ( in
the beginning ). It appears they are all being blackmailed. The man who
blackmails them all also makes his appearance and ends up being killed.
Throughout the movie several other people get killed too. Only the 7,
or 8 including the butler, "survive", knowing that 1 of them is a
serial killer, but not knowing WHO!

I especially like the part when new people enter the mansion, and the
ending(s), where the butler talks and talks and uses people to
demonstrate things that happened throughout the movie.

Anybody else seen this movie and likes to share it with me ?
    Let me know !

If you haven't seen the movie: It definetely worth renting.
    4.5 out of 5, I would say.

Actually, the movie ( if I'm thinking of the right one - Martin
Mull? ) was based on the popular Parker Bros. board game - all the
character names were taken from the game - Prof. Plum, Mr. Body, etc

Decent flick, at any rate - I remember hearing that several
different endings were filmed - are they all on the videotape?

I recall that the ads for the theatrical release touted that there
were different endings - the attempt seemed to be to get repeat viewers.
When I saw the movie on tape a couple of years ago.....

spoiler...

there are multiple endings.
But the second through the last each refutes its predecessor, with the last
one shown being the CORRECT ending, pointing out who REALLY dun it,
with clips from earlier in the film to demonstrate the clues.

Of course, no mystery can have multiple endings, because good dramatic
presentatino requires that the viewer get all the clues and be able to solve
the mystery based on the revelaed evidence.
Thus a definitive ending is necessary, but the trick of multiple putative
endings is cute. You feel good when your guess is revealed as true...
...and then refuted by better detection.

The boardgame is called `CLUEDO' in the UK and `CLUE' in the States.

Given this is an American film, thus the name.

I saw this film on T.V a couple of weeks ago , and I quite enjoyed it .
Its funny , all the different characters had there funny habits .
A 5 out of 5 for Tim Curry as the butler , very funny when he was
explaining the different endings and using the sound effects for the
gun etc. 5+ for the maid , only because she was about to pop out of her
uniform . And 4.5 for the rest .
