422.0. "L.A. Story" by TLE::JBISHOP () Fri Jan 07 1994 17:08

    This stars Steve Martin (95% of the time in non-stand-up mode).

    It's "magical realism"--most of the action makes perfect sense
    in the real world (e.g. no space aliens or telepathy), but now
    and then there's something which is definitely NOT real--in this
    case a freeway sign which talks to Steve's character. Then there's
    a fair helping of LA wierdness (possibly exaggerated).

    Plot line is one of those "man with inappropriate girlfriend finds
    soul-mate" plots I generally don't like for reasons not relevent
    to the movie.

    It's quite funny at times and keeps well to its own logic. I'll
    give it four stars out of five, about equal to "Better Off Dead"
    or "Roxanne", if that helps.

    	This is one of my favorites of all time ... the PERFECT vehicle for
    	Steve Martin!!

    	And, of course Sarah Jessica Parker is a doll!!

    re .1, wow, you won't believe this, but L.A. Story is one of my
    all-time favorite movies, too!  :-)

    I've seen it at least 3, maybe 4, times. It's both funny and romantic,
    with deeper meaning, too.

    What a great movie! I bought the tape. Great acting, funny story,
    plenty of off-the-wall stuff but each is used sparingly. Good pacing.

    I've seen better material for Steve Martin than this, but I must admit
    after seeing it twice it sort of grew on me. It will be difficult to
    find another movie as well done as "All of Me"- a true Steve Martin
    classic!
422.6Good movie!DECWET::HAYNESFri Jan 14 1994 17:105
    I really got a kick out of the Freeway Sign....and it's part at the end
    with the airplane and the weather... cool!

    I remember seeing this prepared not to like it, and surprised that I
    did.  It was kinda cute.
