364.0. "For Film Buffs" by 16134::ALCORN_R (SEMPER FI) Mon Nov 01 1993 07:51

There are a couple of films that I have been trying to track down on
either the cable channels or on video. No success so far. One reason
may be that I,m not sure of the names of the films and they are both
obscure. The first one is a black and white film starring Eric Fleming.
The late actor who starred in the TV western series Rawhide. The movie
came out in the sixties and although I saw the movie during it's
original release, I have never been been able to find any record of it
anywhere. The title may have been " The Preacher & The Vampire " or
something very similar. A western with Fleming playing the part of the
preacher. The second film was a rip-off off Martin & Lewis. It came out
in the fifties & the two leads did a perfect immatation of Dean Martin
& Jerry Lewis. Unfortunately there was a lawsuit & the film was
withdrawn & never heard from again. What I'm trying to find out is the
name of the movie and the names of the two actors who played Lewis &
    Martin.

One other question: Two actors that I am interested in finding out if
they are living or dead are Al Letteri, who was in " The Getaway, "
& George Matthews who had a featured role in " The Buccaneers. " Both
seem to have dissapeared from view some years ago so they may well be
no longer among the living. Bob

The Martin & Lewis knockoff starred a duo billed as Duke Mitchell and
Sammy Petrillo. I don't know what happened to Mitchell, but I believe
Petrillo continued his Jerry Lewis schtick for years (not in the
movies, though). The film in question carried the immortal title of
"Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla" - obviously Lugosi could not be
too choosy about his roles at this point in his career. If memory
serves, it was also released as "The Boys from Brooklyn".

I've been straining to come up with the name of the Vampire Western (I
know it wasn't "Billy the Kid vs. Dracula" - that came years later). I
will try to remember to look it up when I get home. One thing I do
recall is that the vampire/gunslinger was played by Michael Pate, who
generally played Indians - excuse me, Native Americans - in his
Westerns of that era. This one was released by Universal (in around
1957), but I don't believe it's considered by very many to be one of the
    studio's classic horror flics.

Appreciate your answer. I would never have come up with the Martin &
Lewis look a likes. I looked up Michael Pate in the Book " The
Universal Story " and there it was: Curse Of The Undead. When I saw it
in the Boston area it was released under another title. It's strange,
tho. Somehow the New York Directory Of The Film doesn't give Eric
Fleming any acknowledgement for doing the film. Perhaps they were
trying to do him a favor. Incidently the film was made in 1959. Thanks
    again. Bob

    Another question:
A friend of mine is trying to remember the title of a movie -
possibly black and white - in which a murdered man in a wheelchair
is sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool. He is discovered
by a woman swimming in the pool.
    Ring any bells?

364.5Scream of Fear???34309::AFRYDMANThu Dec 02 1993 17:306
Could it be "Scream of Fear". I think the "wheelchaired" guy also was
    in a freezer.

I'm still haunted by this movie which I must have seen 30 years ago.

Thanks Avi. It is "Scream of fear" (British title: Taste of fear).
Having read your reply, I could check out more info in Halliwell
    and Maltin.
Reading/hearing about it really made me want to see/buy it myself.
    Probably notavailable on video, though(?)...

A belated thank you to Jon Reeves for his answer about Al Lettieri. Now
if only I can find out what ever happened to George Matthews. I met
Matthews a few times while attending Boston U. Didn't know him very
well but he was a character & appeared on broadway in several plays.
One of which was opposite Siobahnn McKenna. He also had a featured role
in the film " The Buccaneer. "

    Here's an update on George Mathews (the spelling threw me off before;
the tools have improved since then):

    Death Date: 7 November 1984
    Filmography as Actor:
Corn Is Green, The (1945) [Trap Driver]
Pat and Mike (1952) [Spec Cauley]
      Buccaneer, The (1958)
      "Glynis" (1963) [Chick Rogers]
364.12Looking for name of movie ..OCTAVE::VIGNEAULTMinister of chilesMon May 01 1995 11:2913

I'm trying to remember the name of a movie we saw a while back. It
was your classic haunted house movie, and was of fairly recent vintage
I believe. I don't remember many details other than the fact that
there was a loud banging noise which could be heard throughout the
house. This ended up being the sound from a young boy banging on the
bathtub as he was drowned by one of his parents. They eventually find
a wheelchair in a sealed up room somewhere in the house. Is this enough
to spur anyone's memory of the name of this movie ? It was actually a
    pretty good movie.

     Thanks, Larry

Yes! That's the one. Thanks a million.
