I just saw this over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It's
got a quirky sense of humor - no big surprise with Mike Meyers
in the lead. I especially loved the scenes with his family
where Mike Meyer's also plays his father. Amanda Plummer
was great as usual and I also wish they had used her more.

| re .3, I agree with you on this one, Joe.
I usually like Mike Meyers, but I rented this and was almost bored to
death. Nothing about it captured my interest, and I stopped watching
it about half way through.

I thought the movie started out pretty slow (with the exception of that bit
in the coffeehouse scene), then provided a good number of yuks, then got
kinda cliche and predictable at the end. Not as good as Wayne's World; better
than Wayne's World 2. ;^)

didn't understand why the original was funny....

| Maybe because WW2 didn't aspire to much, and I didn't expect much, that
I found it sort've funny and mildly funny. (I certainly wouldn't want
to sit through it a 2nd time, though.) But, with Axe Murderer I
expected a normal, reasonably decent story, and I didn't get one!

| Also, I'm really sick of those cutesy type boy meets girl scenes such
as in the butcher shop.
Especially -
Possible spoiler:
Where he spends all that time helping her out in the butcher shop when
it's busy and smiling at her and you know they're falling in love, etc.
It's been done before, ya know? :-)

my wife liked it too, much much better than WW2.

I don't think Linda Hamilton played Ralph... it looked like her, but something
was different. I assumed it was her twin sister (who also appears at the
end of T2 when the Hamilton character is on screen with the terminator who
took her shape)

Scottish father (with a heavy Scot accent) doing Rod Stewart's

| We rented this last week - like Lorna's earlier reply - I couldn't
watch the entire movie (that is in one sitting - I finished it the
next morning while doing the cleaning). I found it slow and not
funny at all. The only credit I can give it is that it's a "clean"
movie, no violence and the like.
I haven't seen Wayne's World - maybe this is a factor, as Mike Meyers
is an "unknown" to me.
Thumbs down from me.

Saw it on Cinemax last night (and taped it; I *love* San Francisco) but
won't allow my 9-year-old to see it because of "Vicky"'s supposed
insider information on one of the prisoners. I call that dirty AND
violent (mind you, I loved the Vicky character and don't mind at all
that he spins wacko tales; *this* one was just plain revolting and out of
place in this movie IMO).

I hated Wayne's World (purile, toilet humour), but (not knowing that
Mike Myers was Wayne) I sat down to watch this.
Honestly, I don't think I've laughed out loud at a film in years.
'Do you think I'm sexy?' with bagpipies...BRILLIANT...
Alan Arkin was the 'too nice' police captain.
Humour's a strange thing (we watched Prelude to a kiss the previous
night and for 90% of the film I couldn't even work out WHAT was
supposed to be funny), but this film was (in my books) extremely funny.

PS If you didn't like it, drink half a bottle of reasonable French
table wine (preferably red), first...it worked for us :^)

"Prelude to a Kiss" isn't SUPPOSED to be funny, though they have a few
bits of humor to lighten the puzzling aspects of the story.
It's not somber enough to be classed as a "drama," so it falls into
that catch-all camp known as "romantic comedy" - light, but not "funny."

No wonder I have an odd outlook on life...thanks for putting me right.
Perhaps, while we're at it you can tell me what constitutes FUNNY?
Amusing, humourous, comic, hillarious - I thought they all equated to
funny...
Sorry, but I beg to differ... Just because Prelude to a Kiss isn't the
same KIND of humour as 'axe-murderer', doesn't mean it's not supposed
to be funny...
Still, maybe we should discuss Prelude To A Kiss in its own note
(personally, I think the lack of a note for it sums it up...pleasant,
but almost instantly forgettable. I kept thinking Meg Ryan was going
to throw a Goldie Hawn-style screaming fit, though - It was a 'cookie'
kind of film and she seemed to be trying to look like Goldie Hawn.).

| As a Scotsman living in the US I was kind of keen to see this
movie.What I saw was very *very* funny.Mike Myers has the best Scottish
accent anywhere!He's caught a lot of the Scottish mannerisms,sayings
and humour and worked it well.Yes the movie is a bit strange in parts
but it is still very good.My wife,an American,loved the "heed" part and
often recites the lines when trying to imitate the character!

| I had my family visiting for the weekend and rented this Friday
night. My Scottish father loved the Father character in the film.
Besides the "heed" bit, he liked to sing Rod Stewart's Do You
Think I'm Sexy, and at the wedding when the piper passed out ...
"Piper down, there's a piper down" also had us laughing.
The whole film was a good laugh, but the father "stole the show".
A small nit .... I think he should've asked for his trousers, rather
than pants. It would've been even more "authentic".
