99.0. "Mr. Saturday Night" by 12368::michaud (Jeff Michaud, DECnet/OSI) Thu Mar 25 1993 03:11

This films stars Billy Crystal, David Pymer (nominated for
Best Supporting Actor), and Julie Warner (who was also
in "Doc Hollywood"). Helen Hunt also stars about half
way through. And there's a cameo by Jerry Lewis.

I'm not sure why David Pymer got nominated, nothing in
his performance stuck out to deserve it (he was good,
but no better than anyone else).

Though she didn't have that much screen time, I think Julie
Warner's performance was quite good. And the makeup job
to make her older really looked natural to me (they did
a much better job on her than on Crystal, who I think likes
to be aged [like in "When Harry Met Sally"]).

Please note that this really isn't a comedy (except maybe
to some of our older readers :-), it's more a drama about
the life story of a comedian who never made it really really
	big, and why.

It was also interesting to see a cameo by the actor who plays
Helen Hunt's characters ex-co-workers husband (in the TV
series "Mad About You"). Remember also that Jerry Lewis starred
in an episode of MAY, funny how those hollywood circles work ....

Oh yea, on the video for this movie, after the ending credits
are over, Billy Crystal introduces footage that had been cut.
Not overly interesting footage, but worth sitting through
	(about 10 minutes worth).

...sorry, but this movie, at least on video was a real dud.

...Crystals character was one of the most annoying I ever had to watch.
To the point where one would wish he just wouldn't open his mouth.

    gee,

I really enjoyed this movie - got the video 2 successive weekends.

Paymer, Crystal and Hunt were terrific. I especially enjoyed the
    out-takes at the end.
