86.0. "Obscure Horror Movie Topic" by 35186::BACH (They who know nothing, doubt nothing...) Mon Mar 22 1993 18:29

I am looking for a title of an old black/white English horror
    film.

I would guess it was made in the 1940s or 1950s.

The premise for the movie was as follows:

A bet was made between two men. The one man was to spend the night in
an infamous haunted house. He had to stay until midnight, without
    running out or dying...

The man spends the night, meets many ghosts, falls in love with a girl
    ghost, and tries to escape.

    SPOILER ALERT

At the end of the movie, the girl ghost and the man run, and at the
last minute, the man becomes impaled on the front gate of the houses
    yard.

A coach pulls up, the other guy (the person to whom the bet was made)
takes his money out of the dead guys pocket, as he won the bet.

The man (now ghost) is seen running back into the house with his ghost
    girl friend...

That scenario sounds an awful lot like something I saw with Abbott
and Costello, or was it Don Knotts. Well one of those anyways. I hope
    this helps....

Naw this one was supposed to be serious, scare stuff...

I think its title was something like "The Haunted House" or something
pretty simple. I have been looking for it for a long time and can't
    get close...

(It has sentimental value, if I could get my hands on it)

Anyway, it was from 30s to 50s vintage, and I'm fairly sure the actors
    were all Brits...

    Thanx,

Sounds like the 1928 title may be it!!

Do you have any info regarding where I can get a copy?

No, the only other information I have on it is that Thelma Todd was in
the cast.

There may be some info on the movie in the biography of Thelma Todd

I looked it up in a comprehensive movie guide last night, and that
doesn't sound like it. More details off line...

    Ron,

Thanks! I found "Hot Toddy" for sale at Barnes & Noble. Being a
conspiracy nut, I picked it up. Looks like Thelma lived an interesting
    (albeit short) life!

Seems she was rubbed out by lucky Lucciano when she was 30 years old.

I'm trying to recreate a first "meeting" between myself and my Fiance
several years ago, and we happened to watch this movie that night on
    some obscure horror movie series...

Anyway, I found "Haunted House" (1928) First National (Warner Bros)
    Directed by Benjamin Christensen

Co-starring: Edmund Breese, Chester Conklin, Montague Love, Larry
    Kent.

I guess I contact Warner Bros next and see if its possible to get it
    on tape.

    Thanks noters!

    Called Warner Bros.

They said Turner Broadcasting bought out all titles prior to 1956.

    Called Turner.

Turner only have information (on-line) for films +1932. They told me
    to call SWANK Movies, Inc.

SWANK didn't have the film on record. They told me to call The Academy
of Motion Pictures Archives and Museum.

I haven't been able to get through to them yet.

Geez. I hope this is the movie I watched...

As I remember, "Mommy Dearest" was a movie about the family life of Joan
Crawford (sp?) as seen through her kids eyes. If it's the one I'm thinking
about, the movie was one of those very unflattering stories where the kids
waited until the parent died to trash their reputation. I believe that Fay
Dunaway (sp?) played the lead. The movie was generally panned by the critics.

	Hi

I think the movie your looking for is called " DOLLY DEAREST".

It's a ripoff on the Chuckie (Childs Play) movies only not done
nearly as well story and FX wise.

I'm not sure this ever did make it to the theaters if it did it wasen't
for more than a week or so.

I saw it on video it may be OK for a $1.00 rental.

Don't think there is a novel.

86.17JASON IN HELL : THE FINAL FRIDAY!DECWET::HAYNESFri Jul 30 1993 19:2816
Anyone else hear about the upcoming (moans please....)
JASON IN HELL : THE FINAL FRIDAY (Friday the 13th Part IX)?

I've always been a big fan of Friday the 13th and Halloween movies,
(I started not caring much for Freddy around part 4 or 5...liked 6
    though...)

I believe this one is put out by New Line, and has Erin Gray (I think)
in it.... I only found out when I went to see Rookie Of The Year in
Bremerton Washington, and a movie poster was advertising it. If any of
my facts are screwed up it's because I had a 7 second glance at the
credits underneath due to a little brother yanking on my arm...

Anyone know when this is coming out?

This the 9th in the series. Sean Cunningham, who directed the first
(and wasn't really involved for the sequels) is back, this time
    producing.

Opening.... (when else) Friday, August 13th.

86.22Heard rumors, but mostly nothing.DECWET::HAYNESMon Aug 09 1993 19:448
I heard the possibility that they might make a 9th movie a couple of
months after the 8th one flopped, but only heard rumors until a few
weeks ago in Bremerton Washington I went with my kid brother to see
"Rookie Of The Year" and saw a poster for it. I've since seen ads on
TV, but have yet to see a preview for it before any movie I've seen,
and I've seen probably 5 or 6 since then.

BTW, I have heard absolutly NOTHING about the possibility of anyone
making "HALLOWEEN 6".... and #5 simply 'screamed' (hehehe) of a sequel.

Anyone know anything regarding a 6th movie coming out?
    What it'll be called?

86.24Do we get to beat up on Jason now?37811::BUCHMANJust say NOtes!Fri Aug 13 1993 21:487
I haven't seen any previews and haven't heard anything but the title:
Jason in Hell. Wouldn't it be great if they turned it around, and it
was a chance for Jason's victims to exact their vengence on him? That
is, if he is in Hell for punishment; it might be his idea of a vacation
spot, or he might be on the staff there. Anyway, it might be a way to
breathe life (so to speak) into a genre which pretty much exhausted its
    limited charms after "Halloween 1".
86.2525415::MAIEWSKISat Aug 14 1993 16:459
That wouldn't really be all that new. Jason is always getting beat up,
stabbed, shot, hacked, poisoned, bit, torn, and having his credit cards taken
away. It never stops him for long, he's always up and at them again.

I seriously doubt it will be the last episode, that's just hype. After this
we'll see Friday the 13th Part gizzilion, Jason leaves Hell. After all, if
Dante found a way out, why shouldn't Jason?

  George
86.26JASON IN HELL, FINALLY?DECWET::HAYNESMon Aug 16 1993 17:1332
For true FRIDAY THE 13th buffs, this one is a hard call. It has some
actual semblance of plot, but only a little blood and almost no gore.
Though they could easily bring Jason back for a 10th one, it seems like
they were trying to compile 9 through 13 and hoping that the audience
would forgive them and follow along anyway. Kane Hodder once again
played Jason Voorhees, the only actor to have played Jason more than
    once (3 times now).

    SEMI-SPOILER and SPOILER

In the beginning of the movie, a girl drives to a house, walks in, does
a few tasks with spooky chi-chi-chi-aauh-aauh-aauh's in the background,
gets undressed, in the shower, lights go off, she goes to examine, and
JASON jumps out! (Last I knew he was just a little boy at the end of
part 8! What's happening?) He chases her out into the woods and walks
right into a Special Forces ambush, and they shoot the snot out of him,
finally taking him out with explosives. They take Jason's body to a
classified area in some hospital, and an autopsy is performed, during
which Jason's heart starts beating (unconnected from his body no
less!). A couple of special effect lights and glows later it is
apparent that Jason's essence has transfered to the Coroner.

Jumping through the story a bit, the basic premise is that Jason can
jump from body to body, but can only retain HIS body if he transfers
into someone who is actually a BLOOD RELATIVE. Enter Erin Gray, Jason's
    SISTER.........

Doesn't really feel like a Friday the 13th movie except at the very
beginning and somewhere around 3/4 through, but an interesting
    variation.

I think he's alive (his remake of 'Night of......' is quite recent), I
saw 'dawn...' a while back (the one in the shopping mall....Or is that

Well, I keep hearing news about this, but also keep forgetting to put a
    post here....

There is going to be both another Nightmare on Elm Street, and another
    Halloween movie.

Wes Craven is back at the helm for a really unusual version of the
Nightmare movies... called "Wes Craven's New Nightmare"... Freddy has a
    new look, and it's a sort-of cross between a biography & fiction...

I don't recall what Halloween 6 is going to be called, but as I
understand the director was just fired... so it's on hold temporarily.
They were also trying to get Donald Pleasant again... I believe this
movie has something to do with Michael Myer's origin...

No indication that there will EVER be another Friday the 13th movie.
(How many times have we heard THAT one?)
