68.0. "Of Mice and Men" by 12368::michaud (Jeff Michaud, DECnet/OSI) Thu Mar 11 1993 18:39

Just saw this one last night. Great film! John Malkavich
did a great job! I almost wouldn't of known it was him
	unless I knew it beforehand!

It almost felt like I've seen this movie before even though it's
been 17+ years since having had to read the book in grammer school.

	Thumbs up!

One of my BIG favorites this year. A truly beautiful and poignant
film. Malkavich was wonderful, as was the man who played George (who
also either produced or directed). I never realized how BIG Malkavich
was! I know he put weight on for the role, but he's also quite tall.

Our whole family loved it, although we had the hankies out at the end
    ... (I read it too!)

I rented it this weekend. It was excellent, a must see. John Malkavich
was excellent. Good adaptation of the book.

But how does it compare to the original movie with Mickey Rooney?
Although I think Malcovitch (okay way wrong on the spelling but you
know who I mean ;-) was an excellent choice!!! I haven't seen this one
(the newest) yet but plan on it!!!

I never saw the original, but I thought it had Henry Fonda in it.
Wasn't there a TV movie version made about 10-15 years ago?

re: -1 -- I always make the same mistake. Henry Fonda was in The
    Grapes of Wrath...

Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr. played George and Lenny in the
original 1939 movie. Robert Blake and Randy Quaid were in the TV
remake (don't know the year of release). If either Mickey Rooney or
Henry Fonda ever had anything to do with this story, it's news to me.

Fonda had the lead part in "The Grapes of Wrath"?

Great movie, I saw it on TV about 2 years ago. It's a real classic that has
held up really well over time. It really gives you a good look into the life
of the mid west dust bowl families that moved west to California during the
depression.
