1069.0. "looking for wooden casks" by TALLIS::GORTON () Thu May 01 1997 12:46

Does anyone know of a cooper or other provider of brewing supplies
that can make & sell me some wooden casks? I'm interested in
experimenting with casks to see what kind of flavor differences
I'll get between metal mini-keg, and wooden cask conditioning.
(and also experimenting with different kinds of wood)

Perhaps a local winery would be willing to share their barrel
source with you.

(By the way, you should mention your geographic location so that
if anyone knows of a source they would know if it is convenient
or distant to you.)

Highlander's Own Homebrew in Colorado Springs and Littleton, Co. (not Ma.) sell
a line of casks specifically for homebrewers. They have an 800-number (which I
don't have handy...)

Have you checked with the local homebrew stores?

I haven't been to either of the following two places in a few years,
    but...

A long time back I remember seeing casks at Beer & Wine Hobby.

The owner of the Vineyard homebrew shop (Scott) started out making wine
and I can't remember if he had casks or not - but it's probably worth
    checking out.

The Modern Brewer on Mass. Ave in Cambridge, MA carries casks in
a number of different sizes (from 1 Gal up to 30 Gal.)

    Re: .6

Prices started at about $60.00 for the 1 Gal model and I _think_ they
topped out at ~$150 for the big barrels.
