I hate it when (occured last night)....

When you practice techniques/full contact from the forms, end up with
lumps, dings, sore calfs from being swept and just plain tired from
picking yourself up from the floor, and are then are asked to practice
forms when your body has more sore parts then working parts.

Always a hard way to train.

Personally, I try to avoid forms after doing sparing, otherwise the
tired/sore 'body parts' tend to result in the muscles learning moves
wrongly or atleast badly. In my view forms need to be done when your
really at the peak - well warmed up and before getting tired (assuming
that there is gap between the two).

(My forms are arn't brilliant with trying to make them worse)

    Gerry,

I agree, twas hard to form after sparing. My forms (being marginal
at best until they make some specific for old fat guys) are hardly
show material even when I'm warmed up, stretched and fresh ;-). But.
I'm lucky to have a Sifu that picks forms that are easier for my
body type. Therefore I don't (yet) have to perform "Seven Kicks" which
includes 360 degree sweeps and coming off the floor from a sitting
position with one leg extended, but instead get to do "more advanced"
forms like 18 elbows, only a few kicks and all close range stuff more
    suited to my heavy build.

A little late, but I call those "brain cramps". The more you learn,
the more I suspect it will happen. Yes, forms are particularly easy to
    forget, with or without practice.

As you learn more, you run out of time to practice all the things
you know in a given week. Sometimes, you focus on certain things for a
test and neglect others for weeks.

I too thought of video taping. It's just a matter of getting things
set-up and remembering to bring the video camera in.

I can and have written things down. This helps quite a bit, and is
more convenient to review than a video. Again, it's taking the time to
sit down and do it that usually gets you.
