1068.0. "DTR/CDD FSERR and RMS-F-SYN: logical and password" by NLVMS3::MWILLEMS (Das ganze Leben ist ein Quiz) Fri Mar 14 1997 06:38

    Hello,

A customer of mine uses CDD 7.0 and DTR 7.0 (RDB 6.1-04) on AXP (VMS
6.2). In DTR he uses passwords to protect his dictionary with syntax
    like:

    DTR>SET DICTIONARY CDD$TOP.MEMIC.PROJ.VDIR(SOME_PASSWORD)

If after that he does SHOW PROCEDURES or SHOW DATABASES he sees all he
    wants.
However if he defines a logical as:

    $DEFINE V_DIR "CDD$TOP.MEMIC.PROJ.VDIR(SOME_PASSWORD)" and he does:

    DTR>SET DICTIONARY V_DIR
    DTR>SHOW PROCEDURES

he sees all the procedures that are on the DMU side and after that he
    gets

    CDD-E-FSERR, file system error
RMS-F-SYN, syntax error in file specification.

The error appears immediately if you do

    DTR>SHOW DATABASES

but that is because the RDB database is integrated on the CDO-side.

It looks like something goes wrong when DTR (or CDD) tries to look on
the CDO side. I'm working together with Jan Schollaert from DIGITAL
Holland on this problem and he has put a note in the IAMOK::DTRDIG
notesfile (2993) about it with the same problem description, and with
    no reply until now.
Unfortunately I'm not able to read this conference, because it is on
    the DIGITAL side.

The reason why I put this note here is that the problem appeared after
upgrading from 6.1-03 to 7.0. Has something changed in the way the CDO
side handled DTR passwords in logicals?? I ask this because I want to
know if the problem comes from DTR or from CDD.

By the way doing in CDO:

    CDO>SET DEFAULT CDD$TOP.MEMIC.PROJ.VDIR(SOME_PASSWORD)
    CDO>DIR

    works fine!!

If someone could shed a light on this, I would be very happy.
