221.0. "Duplicate characters on back-back LAT Service" by CHEFS::HARRISON () Wed Mar 19 1997 09:44

Our business unit has migrated like most of the company from VMS & Unix
Workstations/Systems to PC's as part of the NT/Exchange migration from
Allin1. We have a private customer LAN connected by a back-back LAT
Service with password. We connected to the LAN using $set ho/lat nnnn
from our VMS prompt in the past.

We now have HiNote Win95 Laptops and use the VT320e v1.2 terminal emulator.
We want to access the Back-back LAT Service onto the private LAN
    from our Laptops using VT320e.

I recently swapped out the DECserver 200 on the Company LAN for a
DECserver 700 and enabled TCP/IP and a telnet listener mapped to all
the ports that are physically connected port for port onto the private
LAN (DECserver 200). I set up a VT320e session to access the new IP
Service using the standard Winsock Telnet, host name, port 2002 (the
telnet listener port on the DECserver 700). The advanced setup is set
to TDSMP Pending, everything else is blank.

When I connect to the service some weird things are happening:-
The password prompt appears on the private LAN DS200 as it should do,
but displays the password you type which it shouldn't!
When prompted to enter a Username the characters of your username are
duplicated eg DS200>al becomes DS200>aall, if you then check the
username it is shown as al. From this point on all characters are
duplicated that you type. Some of my colleagues reported that Sessions
were crashing after they connected onto our Private LAN VMS Systems and
    ran VCS or other applications.

All of the above works fine if you telnet onto a VMS system and then
set ho/lat nnnn (Back-Back Service) and then connect onto our Private
    LAN Systems.

Would really appreciate some help on this.

    Regards Al
