675.0. "Cholesterol-Free Eggs" by JVAX::SIPILA (Can I go home now?) Mon Mar 23 1992 16:12

    Why does my little Zebra Finch hen - Maggie - lay an egg once in
    awhile with NO YOLK?

    Sunday she laid a very small yolkless egg. It looked like a healthy
    egg - white with a strong shell. Once in awhile she does this.
    Is she lacking something in her diet?

    She gets grit, water, staple seed mixture, a treat mixture, lettuce,
    and fruits.

    She is a little over two years old and the picture of health. Her
    feathers are glossy, her eyes sparkle and she is a feisty little
    one! She and her brother - Max - are always chasing each other,
    and playing little birdie games.

    I have also noticed that she doesn't lay as many eggs as she did
    when she was younger. As finches grow older, do they lay fewer
    eggs?

    Thanks for any advise anyone can give me.

    It still ain't easy bein' a mother bird!

    Regards,

        Susan

675.1Goin' to the Vet!MILPND::SIPILACan I go home now?Wed Jun 24 1992 11:4814
    Well, seeing that no one answered my note, I have an appointment with
    the vet tomorrow at the Littleton Animal Hospital with either Drs.
    Sagar or Kilgore.

    Dr. Kilgore comes highly recommended by other bird fanciers but does
    anyone know Dr. Sagar?

    Thanks,

       Susan

    Actually this note should have appeared as answer to note #700 but
    hopefully both problems can be treated tomorrow.

    Maggie still hasn't laid any eggs!

      Regards,
