908.0. "Hahns Macaws/Jan's Avairy" by JVAX::SIPILA (Can I go home now?) Thu Sep 07 1995 12:27

Does anyone know if Jan's Avairy is still in business? She was located
    at 36 Ash Street, Marlboro.

I was scanning the notes file to find something on Hahns Macaws and
came across a note written in 1989 by someone who highly
    recoomended her.

My bird passed away in June and I am sort of shopping around for a new
pet bird. Does anyone out there raise Hahns, know anyone who does, or
has one that can tell me a little about its characteristics?

There are so many species that it is hard to decide on just one breed.
So far the Goffin Cockatoo, Senegal, and Conures are of interest to me.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

    Regards,

         Susan Sipila

    Hi Susan,

Sorry to hear about your bird :(...what helped me decide
what I wanted was subscribing to the EXOTIC-L digest
(subscription info is in this file somewhere, I think,
or send me mail). It's very interesting to hear about
other birds and learn about the differing behaviors.
Like any list, sometimes you have to pick out what is
valuable to you and pass over some of the personal stuff
(for some reason lately, there has been a lot of that..
this is not usually the case). There is also a Digest
version available - it's a very high volume list and
if you have set term/broadcast enabled it might drive
    you nuts..especially with the beep.

P.S. Also, there is a ton of stuff available on the Web
    too..I can post URL's if anyone's interested.

Forgot - you should take a trip to Boston Exotics in Acton -
they have a ton of 'toos of all kinds. They are great people
too! They have a few conures there, but Family Pet on 101A
has quite a few babies. They also have two adults (a Nanday
and I think a Sun???)that they want to sell together. Pretty
    reasonably priced too.

P.S. If you are interested in a Pionus at all Family Pet
has a very cute White-capped baby...Boston Exotics has
a very special Umbrella 'too baby - incredible personality.
If I didn't fall in love with one of their other birds,
I would have brought him home.

Are you still interested in Hahn's info? I noticed in my Bird
Talk Magazine this month, Hahn's are featured. You may want to
    check it out!
