698.0. "Keet Feeding a Tiel ???" by GERBIL::MAGEE () Fri Jun 12 1992 20:43

    Here is an odd one. I have put one of my male keets in
    with my two tiels. The keet has started regurgitating(sp?)
    seed and feeding it directly to my male tiel (6 months old).

    This had happened before when I just had the same tiel as a
    baby and he wasn't totally weaned. At that time the tiel was
    begging to be fed by anyone so I figured that the keet was
    just trying to shut him up. But now to start again at this
    late date? Strange isn't it? Is it bad for the keet?

698.1INTER-PARROT RELATIONSHIPSBRAT::BOURGAULTMon Jun 15 1992 18:1514
    Chet,

    What has happened is that your Keet has bonded to your Teil. It
    considers the teil its mate now. This happens when you put a keet and
    a tiel in together at a young age. They become "mates" to a degree and
    will feed each other. I find it is especially true with male keets.

    If you plan to breed the tiel in the future I would suggest that you
    break off the relationship soon and get them paired off with respective
    mates for both. Unless you plan on leaving them together permanently
    then it is ok.

    Best luck,
    Denise

698.5Bird closets instead of cages ???GERBIL::MAGEETue Jun 16 1992 16:229

    You are right- they are both males.

    I guess I was trying not to think
    of the implications of what that
    meant when I discussed offspring .

    Chet,

             I guess you'll be getting rid of your male keet as I quote
    you from your reply on note 689.2 "" IF ANY OF MY BIRDS START CHUCKING
    THIER COOKIES ON ME I'LL MAKE SURE THEY DON't LOVE ME ANYMORE. So how
    much do you want for him???? I know of a good home where regergitating
    isn't shunted as something discusting or non-loving and the birds can
    be open about it and not be put in a closet!!

    Ha ha ha!! I remembered that too, but wasn't going to say anything....
    since the chucking isn't taking place directly on Chet.

698.8Wendy vs. MikeGERBIL::MAGEEThu Jun 18 1992 16:2010

    Hmmm-
          Seems Wendy is more observent than Mike ;')

    The key words were "chucking on ME".

    Look- if the keet wants to chuck them in Roseys mouth I
    will just look away. If the keet tries to chuck them in
    MY mouth I will contact Mike and he can have the bird
    at NO CHARGE.
