673.0. "Animal Rescue League Prosecuting Officer?" by HELIX::RUZICH (VAXELN Realtime Software Engineering) Mon Mar 16 1992 17:29

When I went home for lunch today, there was a business card in the door of
my house. It listed a person's name, and then it said...

		Prosecuting State Officer
		Animal Rescue League of Boston
		Authorized State Animal Inspector
		phone 617-xxx-xxxx
		address xx xxxxx

On the back was a hand written note saying "Please call my office regarding
your birds".

Prosecuting State Officer?

Who are these people? The name "Animal Rescue League" sounds like a private
group - does the State of Massachusetts hire them or authorize them to act as
state officers?

By the way, in case you wonder, we have a number of birds. 16 finches,
18 parakeets, 11 parrots (including a very tame, uncaged wise-guy timneh who
presides over the kitchen), 8 adult cockatiels, 4 newborn cockatiels, and
possibly an egg or two. They are in exceedingly good shape - we feed then
soaked seed, vegetables, fruit, beans, and rice. All the birds get lots of
light, and the cages and surrounding areas are clean. The tame birds get
lots of attention (especially Audrey, the cockatiel my daughter raised).

I did a quick check of other note titles, and didn't see anything which seemed
to reference the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

What happens now?

I'd really like to know if the Storm Troopers are coming for my birds.
If anyone has any information, please respond here, or send me mail
at PAXVAX::RUZICH or call me at dtn 223-6112 or at home at (508) 897-6160.

Thanks,

-Steve Ruzich

.1> You'll never know until you call them.

I would very much like to know what I'm dealling with before I call
them. Do they have the force of law? Are they bluffing? Do they do
    this often?

It stikes me that this is a situation where I would be best off getting
as much information as I can before I call.

673.4Storm Trooper got your number!CHUEY::WETZELMon Mar 16 1992 22:179
Maybe someone finked on you for all the birds and noise. I would call
or the Storm Troopers might come in unexpectantly and take everything.
Check with the city or town about raising birds. Some towns you have
to be in a rural area (farming rating) to raise chickens, (cockateils,
    finches, ect).

    Good luck
