643.0. "Blood Sexing" by USHS05::WALZ () Thu Jan 02 1992 14:24

    Today Rico, my charming yellow-naped Amazon, was blood sexed.
    Has anyone had any experience with this process? It sure beats
    surgical or feather sexing.

    The guys at Misty Haven Bird farm swear by it! If you follow
    instructions, they claim it's 97% accurate. It's also a lot
    less unpleasant for the birds.

643.3It's Quick, It's Easy, It's Painless16829::WALZFri Jan 03 1992 15:0819
    All the avian vets in Houston love it. It is very simple.
    	Snip a toe nail
    	Extract Blood
    	Apply Quik Stop to nail
    	Send blood to lab in California
    	Within 2-4 weeks you'll know what sex your bird is.
    My vet charged me $50. Now I am doing it myself. Lab costs are $35.
    Plus....you can use regular mail instead of having to FedEx (as in
    feather sexing).
    Plus....the kits don't have a limited shelf life (as in feather
    sexing).

    And.....You don't have to yank out a blood feather.

    The vets all love it so much that they are refusing to surgically sex.

    It's about time.
