610.0. "Need Advice on Finches" by SALSA::DEFRANCO () Mon Sep 16 1991 19:06

Well, remember the finch problem I had (two extra males). I sold them
to the grain store owner who is starting an aviary. I'm sure they will
    be in good hands.

that was a week ago and it seems the remaining finches are quite happy
with this arrangement and things are settled down in my finch cage.
Now the problem is "little eggs" are appearing on the bottom of the
cage. The are of course broken as I don't have any nests out for my
    finches.

I just don't know what to do!!! Is it cruel to NOT give my finches
nests in order to let them rear a family? I don't want any more
finches and I really don't want to separate the males and females since
I'm out of space, time and money for another cage. Then again, I don't
want the females to get all worn out laying eggs that will never hatch.

    What's a mother to do??

This title is over a year old but the title is
    right for my needs.

My Society finches have started laying eggs, (yea)!!!
What worries me is that they don't seem to be spending
much time in the nests sitting on them. Do these eggs
need "a little bird bottom" warming them all the time
to hatch or will part time sitting suffice??

Is there anything I can do to inspire them to be better
egg sitters, (hmmm- maybe show them Nat'l Geographic videos)!
They do have nesting material, cuttle bone and I feed them eggs
but they won't touch meal worms. Am I missing anything??

    Thanks- chet
