| FWIW to other noters who haven't yet attended one of these....I went
to the last BOAD auction and was impressed with how organized and
well-run it was, and how the club had gone to pains to make sure all
bird buyers had a notecard with information on the bird purchased,
including a contact name and number for the former owner....something
I don't think is typical of these events. The 'auctioneer' was the
club president, Paul LaBonte, who did an admirable job of moving things
along. There were birds ranging from society finches at a requested
minimum bid of $20 dollars for a guaranteed pair with cage to a
gorgeous red-lored Amazon parrot with cage that went for only $300!
Miscellany too, such as bird toys, bird food and such in large bags,
mystery cash bags with free bird raffle tickets inside, etc. There
were some families with children, bird breeders, store owners, pet
owners, and interested bystanders (smile), all having a good time and
getting some great deals. You don't have to belong to buy or sell,
but at least last time you could only use a check to pay if you were
a club member. The membership secretary is always at meetings and
can tell you about membership and club activities, and of course
sign you and your family up on the spot for an annual non-profit
organization donation of $15, which means you get a monthly club
bulletin (a small informal magazine) in addition to other benefits.
I also hope to see you there!
