510.0. "homemede bird treats" by DELREY::PEDERSON_PA (Hey man, dig this groovy scene!) Mon Mar 11 1991 19:16

Does anyone have any recipes for homemade birdie treats?
I have a recipe for dog bisquits, and contains dried bone
meal, could that be given to conures? I'm looking for
some variations on dog bisquit type things to hang in
    a cage for our new-arrival.

Pointers to other notes are welcome!

    thanks,

    pat :-)

Lots of birds seem to like cornbread with veggies and Petamine (or
Nutracare) mixed in...and vary the number of eggs in the batter
depending on whether the birds are feeding babies or not (more for
when they are feeding little ones). Looks almost good enough for
    people to eat!! :')

Bird Talk had an article about homemade treats, including recipies,
but I don't remember which issue (was within the last year). Anyone
    remember?

    Thanks, Linda....

Maybe someone can point me to which issue of Bird Talk
has the recipes. What do you think about the dog bisquit
recipe I have? I use whole wheat flour, molasses, ground
cloves, allspice, eggs, oil, ginger, baking soda, sterilized
dry bonemeal; and bake in bone shapes till hard. Can I use
this recipe (making birdie shapes of course :-) )for a
hard-type treat? Or is there too much spices? Is the bonemeal
in the recipe safe for birds?

As you can tell, I'm *real* new to bird ownership ( we should be
getting Pancho (peach-fronted conure) in about 2 weeks.

    Thanks for any help!

    pat :-)
