430.0. "What an auction!" by TJT01::ARMITAGE () Tue Oct 09 1990 10:38

    I just wanted to let those of you who missed the BOAF auction last
    night that you missed a biggie! It was my first auction and it lasted
    until 11pm. I was able to purchase two beautiful zebra finches, 8
    weeks old in an oldfashion cage for only $16. I was also able to hook
    up with a breeder and got myself a cinnamon pied cockatiel at an
    extremely reasonable price. Boy was a cutie he is! I'm so excited to
    get out of here so I can go home and play with my new babies. First
    stop is to get a nice big cage so I can spoil him rotten with lots of
    toys and love! Of course the same goes for my finch babies.

430.1What a Buy!CPSR2::SIPILACan I go home now?Tue Oct 09 1990 11:3939
    Good Morning -

    $16.00 for two baby zebra finches and cage! You really got a buy!
     Although I am not in the market for any more birds, I am sorry
    I didn't attend the auction.

    Zebra's are so cute! I got Max and Maggie when they were about
    8 weeks old too. It was fun to watch them grow into adult birds
    - each with their own little personalities!

    This is my first experience with birds. I always thought "birds
    were birds" until these two came into our home.

    After having these two, I think my next bird will be one I can handle,
    train and teach to talk. Max and Maggie are quite tame for finches
    though, and are getting bolder as they get mature. Maggie being the
    bravest. She is a bossy little hen while Max is the happy one - he
    sings most of the time - that is, when Mag isn't trying to pick
    a fight with him!

    Have fun with your new babies including the cinnamon pied cockatiel.

    One question:

    Is this auction ever held on a week-end?

    Regards,

      Susan Sipila

430.2Only twice a yearTJT01::ARMITAGETue Oct 09 1990 14:125
    Susan,
    This auction is only held twice a year with the next one being in the
    spring. They BOAF voted to move their meetings to the Manchester area
    so it will be a lot closer than Hampton and much more convenient too!

    Did you get a chance to see the two HalfMoon Conures that went for
    auction last night? They belonged to a coworker of mine, who brought
    them in yesterday. They visited me in my office and I played with them
    for as long as I dared to. (Any longer and they would have come home
    with me!!!) Calvin and Hobbes were really sweet little birds, and very
    comfortable with strangers - I think they played with half the facility
    yesterday!!

430.4See them-I heard them!TJT01::ARMITAGEWed Oct 10 1990 14:5613
    Rita,
    I did see the two conures and they were cute! Unfortunately, none of
    the conures that werre up for bid went to new homes. I think it was
    because they were having this screaming contest through most of the
    auction and many of us had "Conure Headaches". But they were beautiful
    and if they weren't so noisy, I probably would have gone home with them
    too! We now have 2 green singing finches(actually very frustrated
    females), 2 zebra finches, one cinnamon pearl cockatiel, 1 green cheek
    conure, 1 flame point himilayan stud, 1 bratty 5 month old calico
    kitten, 1 mouse and 3 fish tanks. And everyone thought Benson's Animal
    Park was closed!   8)
