400.0. "This 4 That...Swaps!!" by CLOSET::COMPTON (Linda DTN 232-2441 ACO/E47) Fri Aug 17 1990 19:00

    Having waited for just the right number, Note 400 is for
    swaps...exchanging items for items or services and so forth...
    no money to change hands. As Dick mentioned under Note 393,
    For Free, this way it is easy to find something you saw
    available by going to the base note for, in this instance,
    swaps, rather than trying to find a random, individually
    generated base note. Those of you who prefer to write
    individual base notes about swaps, as with for sale and
    for free, are certainly welcome to do so. /Linda

400.1Baby Peach-Face Lovebirds for ?????CLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Tue Sep 25 1990 22:1619
    Three normal peach-face lovebirds, 7-8 weeks old, just weaned,
    parent-raised but handled a lot so they don't bite, ready to go to
    new homes in exchange for finches (except zebras or societies),
    male parakeet, female canary, older untamed lovebirds, cranky
    noisy conures ;') or ?? make a suggestion (used hand tools, old
    blankets or towels...our parrots seem to devour them, ceramic bowls,
    etc.).

    If you took one baby bird it could be a good prospect for a single pet
    *if* you are ready to spend time each day over the next month to get the
    youngster used to you. Or could be part of someone's breeding program to
    backcross to normal green once the birds are a year old.

    These little bundles of energy are strong and healthy with
    beautiful colors. Located in Merrimack, NH. Home 603-595-9429

400.3Zebra Finches for SwapMEIS::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaMon Oct 29 1990 18:5421

    My breeding project is changing direction. I'm paring down to just
    marked white zebras, owl finches, and star finches, so I'm planning to
    part with grey zebra stock. I have several mated pairs of normal gray
    zebras, some split to marked white, plus a few youngsters. All are
    either sitting eggs or raising young now, and will be ready to go as
    soon as the young are weaned (2-3 weeks from now). These are all big,
    cobby, solid birds, no male markings on the hens, reliable breeders and
    solid parents. Although I don't know for sure, I'd guess that the
    original birds came from English stock.

    I would like to swap for any of the following: society finches, button
    quail, unused wicker finch baskets or finch or budgie nest boxes,
    natural nontoxic tree branches (appropriate for bird perches for any
    size bird - I've got everything from tiny finches to cockatoos),
    food/water dishes in good condition, galvanized wire mesh of any size,
    shop shelving, small bales of feed-quality hay, parrot or parakeet
    toys, budgie or finch seed or treats.

    and ready for life as a wonderful pet. Do not bite. Trade for
    finches or canaries or breeder lovebirds (no longer suitable for pets,
    for example), or used but serviceable cages of various sorts, or old
    but clean towels and blankets (do not want Zebras finches, by the way).
    Pls. call 603-595-9429 if interested. Answering machine is *always*

    as cage covers, primarily. Will deliver within reasonable distance

400.7Zebras for cockateil suppliesTJT01::ARMITAGEWed Dec 12 1990 18:5212
    I have two zebra finches one male and one female. They are brother and
    sister and I got them at the BOAF auction two months ago. They are
    beautiful and are in excellent shape. Due to financial situations I
    must get rid of these birds. I would like to exchange them for
    cockatiel food, corn cob litter, cockateil playpen stuff, anything else
    that you might be able to think of for a cockatiel. I am keeping my
    cockatiel since we are bonded and I'll starve first before I give her
    up.

400.8Baby LovebirdsCLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Fri Dec 14 1990 20:566
    More peach-faced lovebird babies will be ready soon. Want to swap for
    adult lovebirds that are ready to be breeders, where you would rather
    start fresh with a young one to tame.....or conures of various sorts.
    Also interested in various household items for swap like clean used
    blankets (small or large...), large bowls for mixing rice and stuff
    for the birds, firewood, whatever. /Linda
400.9Java Rice BirdsCLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Fri Dec 14 1990 20:584
    Two java rice finches...I believe they are both males -- trade for
    lovebirds of breeding age, conures of various types, or whatever.
    These birds would be better off with mates....so if you have a spare
    hen, I'll also swap your choice of the two males for your hen. /Linda
400.102 Pair of Weavers AvailableCLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Fri Dec 28 1990 18:0817
    One young pair of Napoleon (yellow) weavers and one pair of Orange
    Bishop weavers available for trade for other birds, bird supplies,
    bird toys, cages, whatever. The Napoleons are very sweet together,
    although the male is not in full color. The Orange Bishops stay
    apart most of the time, so he may need another hen, but the male
    is still in almost full color. In doing some reading, these are very
    difficult to breed, unless the male has several hens and a large
    planted aviary in which to breed. Otherwise, they are interesting
    and beautiful aviary birds. I have not heard the males sing yet....

    Call me at home at 603-595-9429 in Merrimack, NH or send mail
    (answering machine is always on, but I return all calls as soon
    as possible).

    Thanks,

400.12ENGLISH BUDGIE - MALE FOR FEMALEMEIS::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaWed Jan 30 1991 15:4725

    Would like to swap a male English budgie for a female. The bird is a
    1990 chick, ready for breeding this summer. He is a lovely, high
    quality bird from a top breeder (Diane Austin). He is a yellow-faced
    green, big, bold, solid conformation, with a minor color fault (a
    single dime-sized clear yellow spot on the back of his head that should be
    striped.) He is high strung and people-shy, so would work best as a
    breeder. (Ie; he is not really pet material.)

    I won him and his "mate", an unrelated pair, at a bird show raffle.
    Unfortunately, the breeder "goofed" and guessed the sex wrong, and I
    have two males. (I can see why she thought he was a hen - it is hard
    to tell at that age, and he does *bite* like a hen!)

    Would like to swap for an English (no American, please) hen, size more
    important than colour. (The "mate" is a yellow-faced blue male that
    I'd like to keep - pretty colour, nice lines, but on the small size, so
    a large hen is in order.)

400.14want to try raising some?MEIS::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaThu Feb 21 1991 15:5133

    RE: .-1

    To Lisa, (and others of you who have written to me about silver button
    quails)

    My silver quail hen has chosen not to sit any clutch for longer than 3
    days, no matter what I do. I understand that this is not uncommon for
    button quail these days, as most of them are incubator-raised. She is
    still, however, an egg factory :-)

    I received an incubator for Christmas. I do not have an egg-turner, so
    in order to hatch the eggs, they need to be manually turned 3 times a
    day. I've had some craziness in my life the past couple of months (for
    those of you whose mail I haven't yet answered; forgive me, I haven't
    forgotten you, I'm *swamped*) and as such, I haven't felt that I could
    commit the necessary time to hatch out the eggs.

    Lisa, if you or one of the other noters here who wanted button quail
    would like to try hatching and raising a batch, perhaps we could work
    something out. Ie; you can take my incubator and a bunch of eggs, and
    you can have whichever quail(s) out of the hatch you want, in exchange for
    returning the incubator and the remaining quail chicks. If you'd like
    to give it a try, let me know.

    Otherwise, when my life settles down a little (and it better be soon!
    %-) and I can commit the time to raising them, I'll hatch some out. As
    far as other breeders go, I don't know of anyone else who is currently
    raising button quail, but you could try asking at the Littleton Animal
    Hospital - they often have leads.

400.15Baby Handfed Peach-Faced Lovebirds (and color mutations)CLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Thu Feb 21 1991 22:4731

    Hi Fellow Bird Lovers,

    Baby handfed peachfaced lovebirds of various colors to trade for other
    birds of comparable value, chest of drawers, simple but serviceable
    bookshelves, or suggest an item. This has to be a swap. These birds
    are not for sale through this notesfile. Colors available include
    lutino, creamino, normal green, dark green, light and dark green pieds,
    and Dutch blue/cobalt.

    I'd love it if some of you out there had a loving, non-smoking home to
    offer to these little sweeties. I have a very few used cages that
    could be part of the swap, if this would help. Starter kit of suitable
    perches, dishes, and food included.

    These birds are used to other birds and cats, but not children. Adult
    household strongly preferred (although one was successfully adopted by
    a loving owner only two years of age, but this is an exception).

    I will try to convince you to get the bird(s) you adopt a Vitalite!!
    They are thriving under their glow now. They are fed Topper and rice
    and veggies and are used to large cages and daily handling to keep them
    tame and gentle.

    If interested in discussing this further, please call me and leave a
    message with the best time to reach you. Located in Merrimack, NH at
    603-595-9429.

    Thanks,

400.16Group of Cutthroat FinchesCLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Thu Jun 06 1991 19:0923
    I have a 3'3'2' homemade flight with five pairs of cutthroat finches,
    most unrelated, some banded, with nests, two proven pairs among them
    that I would like to give to an experienced finch breeder who has the
    room and time to work with these birds. They as a species are famous,
    apparently, for throwing out their babies. The two 'proven' pairs
    have each produced one clutch each of three babies and did, indeed,
    toss them out after between 3-6 days. I have only been able to save
    one of these, and the little hen is a sweetheart and will stay in
    my canary flight the rest of her life (she imprinted on me so rejects
    any other cutthroat finch but strangely so lives well with the
    canaries, who are afraid of her but remain unharmed and relatively
    undisturbed in a four-foot flight). Anyhow......These are not for
    novices. I would prefer not to split the group, but will consider
    this if someone wants to cage breed a specific pair or two. Pls.
    call if interested in these birds. All in excellent feather, strong
    and healthy. Interested in a variety of items in trade. We can
    discuss this when you call. I will be putting an ad in the National
    Finch Society bulletin and local bird clubs very soon, but wanted
    to give my fellow noters the first chance.
