393.0. "For Free" by CLOSET::COMPTON (Linda DTN 232-2441 ACO/E47) Tue Aug 07 1990 21:58

    Fellow Noters,

Since there are often birds and related items for free that show up
in our classified ads (Note 13) or someone starts a new base note for
the purpose of giving something away, I'd like to designate this
base note as a place to put anything that is for free. I will change
our introductory message that lists where to find for sale, wanted,
and intros to include this reference if I don't see any objections in a
week. Contact me directly or put a reply here if you want to comment.

If anyone is concerned that their note might get buried in a .reply,
then you always have the option of making your own base note about
whatever it is you have to give away. There are times when people have
done this on the other three topics and it has not been a problem. But
just think about what would have happened if *every* for sale, wanted,
or intro was its own base note! ;')

    Thanks,

    Linda

393.1The conference is easier to "get around in" with fewer base notesAVIAN::KIRSCHBAUMPain is Required, Suffering OptionalWed Aug 08 1990 15:2012
Since most people read notes using NEXT UNSEEN, all REPLYS are
	seen by new readers.

The only thing that multiple base notes causes is a confused, and
difficult to find your way around in, notes file.

If you keep replys to the base note, then later after haveing read
the note, you decide you want the `free bird' youy will know which
note to find the reply in.

o A pair, approximately four years old, male is silver grey,
hen is pure white; have produced two clutches-killed first
two chicks, looked white; successfully raised one of two
chicks from the second clutch-a normal male. These two
are the grandparents of these two: (owner also has info
on parents and grandparents of this four year old pair)

o 'Grandchildren' of the above: two normal males (from a
clutch of five where one was white, two were fawn, and
the remaining two normal males--parents were a normal-
dark grey male, and a hen that was a lighter grey).
    	  Just weaned.

Contact me at DTN 381-0687 or at home in Merrimack, NH at

Ernie is a rescue bird in need of a home. He is a very active bird and
seems to get along well with my other budgies but they are a very bonded
pair and do not welcome a third party. So Ernie has his own cage but
I would really like to see him in a home of his own. He came from a
situation where a woman kept him in the same cage as her cockatiel.
It was not a good match (although I know it can work in some
situations). The woman gave the two birds away and I got a call
because the new owners did not want Ernie, just the 'tiel. He will
be going to see Dr. Kilgore this weekend to make sure he is as healthy
as he appears to be. If you are interested in giving Ernie a good home
either as a pet or breeder please let me know.

Kathy Halligan called to say she is still looking for homes for

males ('grandchildren' of the breeding pair). I think she has
one cage left. Details in note 393.3. Pls. call Kathy directly

afternoons are the best time to reach her. 508-657-8196.

393.12Bronze-wing finch available for adoption.....CLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Sat Jan 12 1991 18:3221
    Hi,

I was given one bronze-wing finch and would love to give it to someone
who knows what it is and what to do with it!! It is rumored to be
aggressive, apparently, so wouldn't due with the gentler finches. It
is the size of a strawberry finch and in excellent feather. You have
to pick it up here at my house in Merrimack, NH. Call to 'apply' for
    this adoption situation.

I want to place the bird with someone who is knowledgeable about
finches, so it is not stricly speaking 'first-come, first-served', but
if there is a 'tie' of possible people to adopt the bird, I will resort
to who of the two called first.

My number is 603-595-9429...answering machine will pick-up/I promise to
return all calls within a day and to keep track of who calls first, second,
etc. if there are several interested.

    Thanks,

393.14Old-fashioned incubatorCLOSET::COMPTONLinda DTN381-0687 ZKO1-2/C21Thu Jun 06 1991 19:018
One chicken egg incubator, slightly used, has been given to me. In our
barn loft now. If anyone out there could really *use* this now, I'll
give it to you. If you just want it to have it, I'll keep letting it
gather dust upstairs. Sorry if this sounds flip, but I really want to
know somebody needs this and is not just acquiring it. Thanks for
    understanding.

393.15FREE TO CARING PEOPLE 2 COCKATEILSBUFFER::RACINEThu Aug 01 1991 13:0514
    FREE TO GOOD HOME:

2 MALE GREY COCKATEILS. Sid and Tiny have been with me for
5 years. They don't get the attention I would like them
to have because I have a cocker spaniel who is very jealous.
Neither guy talks but they are hand held (Sid tends to be
cranky, but he just needs extra attention).
They use to have the run or shall I say the fly of the
    house until Samantha arrived.

I can be reached on buffer::racine or dtn 276-9727 or

I'm moving to another state (TEXAS! YAHOOOOO!!!!!) and not all of my
birds will be moving with me. The following are free to good homes:

5 American budgies, all hens. Ages are between 6-9 months. They were
handled as younsters, but not much since then, so they will need some
taming work, but all are pretty stable and have good pet potential.
Can be used as breeders next year. 4 are yellow, lightly pied with
black and green. One is white with a blue diamond on her back. (This
one is particularly steady and would make a wonderful pet!)

    2 chestnut-flanked white zebras, male
    2 normal grey zebra hens
    1 fawn zebra hen

393.20FREE COCKATIELJOAT::BLAKESlimed by a golden retrieverWed Sep 25 1991 18:4229
	FREE TO A GOOD HOME:

Buster (alias "Bud") is a gray cockatiel, age 6 years, who we
assume to be a male. He is partially hand-tamed; he will sit
on your finger and shoulder BUT he doesn't like to be "enclosed"
in your hand and will sometimes nip. He seems to prefer men.

Buster is VERY vocal; in addition to the usual wolf whistles and
jungle noises, he can whistle parts of the themes to the movie
"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" and the TV show "Batman". He can
also say "Hello", "Hi Bud", and "Pookie bird". (Surprisingly,
he hasn't learned to say "Shut up"....) He likes jazz with lots
of brass and percussion and he likes the vacuum cleaner. He also
adores the touch tone telephone and the answering machine beeps.

He comes with a cage (the plastic bottom is broken and needs to be
repaired/replaced), food, and other bird paraphernalia.

My husband hasn't had the time to spend with Buster for the last
year or two and now we are moving out of state and our stuff
must go into storage for a while. We'd like to see Bud go to
a "birdy" person who will appreciate his (ahem) outgoing personality.

Buster is located in Gardner, MA.

I received a call last night from a person asking if I knew anyone
interested in adopting a Ring Neck Dove. It seems that this bird
was almost used for snake food. It was brought to a school for the
purpose of becoming lunch for a python. I concerned student rescued
the bird and is looking for a good home. I didn't want to put this
into the for free note ..... I thought that it wouldn't get immediate
attention. I am giving my fellow noters a chance to consider this
opportunity before I go beyone this audience. If you are interested
please contact me either via EMAIL at SVCRUS::BUCCIERI or DTN 223-5089.
My home number is 508-897-5172. I live in Maynard and the bird is
currently in Sherborn Ma. I will assist in the acquisition of this
    bird.

gotten hooked on birds. They now have two keets that
they love but they really enjoy my tiels. These folks
would love a tame tiel yet can't afford the retail

As I raise these birds to exhibit in shows every now and then I must
weed out the ones that aren't of show quality. I presently have 29 birds,
both sexes and the colors range from different shades of green to a few blues
and even one grey. They will be available for another week and a half at
which time whatever remains will be disposed off. I work 3rd shift in HLO1
and can be reached there between midnight and 8am at the above number or at
home during the day usually between 9:30am and 2pm.

I have an adult female budgie that I am looking to place. She has had
a very hectic life and would enjoy the company of other budgies rather
than that of humans. Would probably due well in a breeding situation.

Because of this birds past (3 different homes lots of stress) I'm
being very cautious with placement. Please contact me for more
    info if you are interested.

    FREE RINGNECK DOVES!!

2 cute baby Ringneck Doves....and 2 more in the nest! Must find good
homes for these little guys. They are very quiet and gentle birds,
you must have a good sized cage so that they have ample room, since
they are not small birds (about the size of a Mourning Dove or small
pigeon). They are just starting to get their rings in (very faint).
About 8 weeks of age. The other two in the nest are only about 1 1/2
weeks old. Should be ready in 2-3 weeks.

Color: Soft beige with black ring.

I have taken possession of a parakeet that I must
pass on to a good home. This bird is pure white and quite
pretty! It is not hand tame but just specializes in looking
good :-) There is no cage included so you would need one.
This bird would probably also do well in a breeding situation.

The bird is located in Merrimack near the MKO
 facility.

I have quite a few finches that I would like to place...no charge.

1 male zebra..white. real pretty, and a great singer!

5 society finches. Parents and 3 babies (2 males, 3 females)
some fawn and white, some chocolate and white. The males
sound like a cross between a house wren and a canary. They
also talk to me when they see me coming with breakfast and
      their vegetables.

3 orange cheeked waxbills. the cutest little guys...when they
talk they sound like squeaky toys.

All these birds are together in a very large Hoi cage. The
birds can all go together or separately. I paid $75.00 for
the cage and, if someone wanted to have a ready-made finch
colony, they could have the cage also for $50.00

FREE: One Parakeet. Three years old, give or take a couple of months
We can't figure out whether it's a male or female. It's
cehr (sp?) is an odd cross between dark blue and brown. The pet
store told us at the time that it was a male.

He is very healthy and does chirp, not constantly. Prefers
lots of noise and then he really gets going.

Color is lemon yellow. Plays with his toys. If he decides to
venture out of his cage, he easily finds it to get back in but
he seems to prefer the cage to freedom.

He comes with bedding, his sprays, and seed BUT you have to
           provide the cage.

My daughter would like to seem him placed in a nice home. I
think she feels guilty that she hasn't has time to spend with
           him.
