339.0. "Gro-Lites?" by TOOTER::WIMMER () Mon Apr 02 1990 13:55

    I'm looking for information on lighting......

    I'm designing a new condo for me and the birds. Would like to
    use Vita Lites, buut they seem to only come in tubes. Someone
    at a bird store suggested the the spectrum of plant grow lites should
    be almost the same. These come in the flood type bulbs that would
    fit in a recessed aimable fixture.

    Anyone know anything about this? Would be a great solution if it makes
    sense......

    Incandesent plant lights are *not* similiar in spectrum to wide
    spectrum Vitalights. Plant lights are high in certain frequencies
    that encourage plant growth. On the other hand, wide-spectum lights
    imitate the full spectrum of daylight.

    I believe that the new incandesent ?halide? spotlights you can
    now buy at home centers are close to full spectrum. I forget the
    correct deignation of these bulbs ....... they do, however, generate
    a great deal of heat.
