278.0. "Georgia Cage Bird Society Annual Show " by RHETT::RROGERS () Mon Oct 30 1989 23:16

Hi,
    I'm a silent reader from the Atlanta Customer Support Center. I haven't
seen any notes from around here but, just in case, I saw a classified ad:

Georgia Cage Bird Society Annual Show. Nov. 4, 1989. 9-5 pm. Radisson Inn;
Dunwoody, I-285 at Chamblee Dunwoody. 422-6875.

PS. I don't own any birds, but I follow this notes file daily. Now I've
started shopping around and going to local shows for fun. There is some
real expertise in this notes file!

    Be careful, this notes file can become addictive. The next thing you
    know you will be entering notes about your newest addition to your
    flock.

    Roseanne,

    Beware! Birds can become habit forming! I started out with one
    cockatiel after reading about them for nearly a year. I now have
    20 birds. But I love each and every one of them. Welcome to the
    pet birds file. Let us know when you get your first bird!

    I *wish* I had started reading this notes file before I got any
    birds...would have saved me lots of time and money!! Welcome to
    the NOTESfile! :')     /Linda
278.4Thank you for the Welcome!RHETT::RROGERSThu Nov 09 1989 18:0617
 Thank you for the warm welcome!

 I too wish that I had this notes file when I owned my first (and only) birds
(a pair of spice finches). The hen died from the stress of laying egg after
egg - some fertile, some not. I didn't know how much of a stress it was, or
that removing the nest box might help. I also didn't know the importance of
a varied diet! I had given up on getting them to eat food other than seeds
very easily. I was a young teenager at the time.
  I did go to the show last weekend. If I ever start to buy a bird from a
pet store, someone hit me please! I saw Bichenos for $40 and Gouldians for
$50. Hand fed cockateils for $60. There was judging for cockateils and
canaries. I'm not sure if that is all because I had to leave very early
because I was paged. Some of the birds were incredibly tame. Those blue-
green grass parrakeets are sooo pretty!
  Too bad I can't afford most of the the birds! Maybe it isn't too bad :-).
I'll let you all know when I finally bite the bullet and get one!
