194.0. "Bourke's Parakeets" by DELNI::G_KNIGHTING (Thinkingspeakingthinkingspeaking.) Mon Jun 12 1989 18:19

We have just acquired a beautiful young female Bourke's parakeet.
For reasons which will suggest themselves to all but the purest minds,
we are looking for a male. Obviously, we'd prefer to buy from a
    breeder. Anybody know of one?

Also, any comments from those who have experience with or knowledge
of these birds will be very much appreciated.

    	Thanks.

does this Bourke have a band on it? If it is an ABS one and says
ck on it that is me. I am trying to get a batch from calif from
a breeder, I know so maybe we can go into this togeather. If it
does not have my band then one of the up & comming youngsters you
may like. I am into split pink, pinks & normals.

my latest baby thinks it is a bat and rides around in the middle
of my back. this is a little scarry because she is so light that
I am afraid I will sit on her. ck

    1) hide & go burkie
    2) nest in the curtains.
    3) purch on large parrot and give owner heart failure.
    4) have 3 burkes run around in circles on the floor, hide under
        cages, radators ect...
    5) herd the burkies around the house when they decide not to fly.
    6) eat the toes & fingers of human sleeping on the coutch.
    7) find places to sleep like top of tv, sholders and next to large
parrot, again giveing owner heart failure.
    8) going to rename them the 3 stooges.......

I am interested in the pinks and split pinks. Do you have any little
ones on the way? Do you sell them? If so, what are you asking for
them? They sound like beautiful little birds!

I have found that you usually have to buy the breeders and then
hand feed the babies to get the best. Pinks usually sell for $250
on up depending on where you get them. Pink is also sex related.
to get a pink male he will give you pink hens and split cocks.

If you were to breed to a pink hen all chicks with a pink cock will
be pink. But they will not be good birds. pink is a ressivie and
throws poor body type. best to breed split cock to pink hen and
pink cock to normal hen. I am going to try my pink cock again in
the late fall. I do not expect too much of him because he is almost
20 years old and the last two clutches were clear. The lady that
feeds them out usually sells the pinks to $150 and normals at $85.
this is wholesale only and she no longer deals retail.

Got a breeder in california that may come down in price if we could
buy 3 or more. I just do not have the bucks$.
