Has anyone found out how to make a ring tailed cat stay away from an outdoor avery? My sister has one that is jumping from trees onto the side of the pens. She can not put out posion or large rat traps due to the neighbors cats and her dogs. Any suggestions would help. Have a heart trap is not working.

Call your local police station and ask for the Animal Control Officer. He/she can probably help quickly. Some officers use tranq guns to stun the varment, then he wakes up someplace else. Traps and poison are inhumane....but sleeping and waking someplace else should not be too bad! Good luck to your sister! jean

last time I talked to her it had not attacked for 5 days. seeing how she has a bad heart I talked her into checking with the county extension agent. I know this stresses her & the birds out to the max.

32.6 | the weight of the cat should make it happen | TAMDNO::WHITMAN | I'm the NRA and I vote | Tue Feb 21 1995 12:08 | 23 |
< Has anyone found out how to make a ring tailed cat stay away from < an outdoor avery? My sister has one that is jumping from trees < onto the side of the pens. ... Assuming that a BB gun is either not practical or not acceptable for other reasons, I'd suggest playing with the idea of 2 layers of aluminum screen that would act as a switch. Place the 2 screens far enough apart so normal breezes won't cause them to make contact, but the weight of the cat would. These 2 sheets of screening would be used as the switch to make a battery powered bell ring or turn on sprinklers or lights or however exotic you wish to get. No doubt it would startle the birds too, but I'm sure the cat's already doing that. Be sure the screening is aluminum and not nylon. This mechanism would be inexpensive (less than $20 for everything), easy to install, environmentally safe, no danger to kids, requires no monitoring by your sister and, at least the first few times, should scare the rings out of the cat's tail... Good luck Al |
