25.0. "May I have your permission, Please?" by ZEKE::HUTCHINS (Feathered Obsessions Aviary) Tue Oct 18 1988 20:40

As many of you know, I do a lot of writing on the avicultural subject
well outside of notes...I have a column in the NHAS Bulletin called
Cage Chatter. This is a fun column. I started it 2 years ago when
I would hear lots of questions about birds and all, and then, these
same people were afraid to ask "In Public" cause they thought they
    would look stupid!

That irritates me. There is no such think as a stupid question.
But anyway, Cage Chatter is a column where people send me their
questions, I print them in the bulletin with answers that are fully
researched, and then, they get their answers, someone else with
the same questions gets an answer,, and nobody knows who asked,
    except for me!

So, what do I want??? sorry...I would like your permission to use
some of the questions and/or comments here for new material in the
    bulletin!

So, what do you say?? Can I, Please!

    Thanks in Advance!

    Jean,

As a moderator I will say yes, on one condition, that you obtain the
permission of the questioner and the authors of any responses that you
will quote or reference. I would also ask that you notify either myself
or Bonnie when you will be using information from the conference. If
it is a general question that you will be paraphrasing or to generate
an idea for your column, then go ahead.

My primary concern is that even thought this is an employee interest
conference it is still the property of Digital. My secondary concern is
that there are two, that I know of, columnists who participate in this
conference. It might look strange to see you both address the same
topic in your columns and know that the source was our conference.

Have fun, but just make sure all concerned parties are aware,

    Eric

Thanks Eric, that was why I used the note as a source of permission.
I could easily just use some of these questions....but I really
want to go about this with integrity, not sneak around. If someone
wants their names mentioned, I will gladly print that and give the
    credit to the proper folks.

But again, I will not just take the liberty of using these files
on the outside. Besides I am a Justice of the Peace, I sure cannot
go around stealing thoughts with a reputation to uphold!

    Thanks Again!

I guess that I am the other columnist. Wouldn't it be a
comedy of errors if we both wrote about the same topic and
    used that same examples.

What I have been doing when I see something of interest is
write that person directly to get details and permission.

Fine Feathered Freelance...I like that! Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the applause. Are you both reading my columns in
Bird Talk? Any feedback? Be kind, I'm fragile.
