14.1Feathers, Feathers and More Feathers, Please!SMURF::HORNERThu Dec 29 1988 16:3620
    If anyone would like to help....I would like to get some feathers!
    Macaw, Cockatoo and other various parrots feathers. As they fall
    or moult out...would you be so kind as to collect them for me???

    I can pick them up....we can try the mail here....but, it would
    probably be best to send them USPS....to:

14.2carriers of??SVCRUS::KROLLFri Dec 30 1988 18:573
    why the feather?? isn't that a way to collect all the mites and
    microscopic orgainims that they may carry. I was under the impression
    that pusidicous sporalates and can be spred this way also.
14.3carriers if careless...SMURF::HORNERTue Jan 03 1989 13:0411
    Charla, is something wrong?

    There are very few parasites that will remain on feathers that are
    no longer attached to a host. But yes, careless collections can
    cause problems....

    Plus, I am hoping that if any feathers do come my way, they will
    come from private, *indoor* aviaries where the birds would not have
    been exposed to outside elements and wildlife.

    Jean
14.4You have to tell us why!GLDOA::LROMANIKTue Jan 03 1989 15:247
     Oh come on Jean! You can't just ask for feathers without telling
    us why. I'm dying of curiousity. What will you do with the feathers.

    How many do you want? Are you trying to just get a representative
    of each kind of bird - or the more feathers the better?

    Laura and Mad Max
14.5How about, just feather obsessed???SMURF::HORNERTue Jan 03 1989 18:5021
    Ok. Ok. I am tired of my water bed springing leaks, (on my side
    naturally) so I decided to fill it with feathers!!!

    Actually, I have an Indian friend, and she has asked me to help
    her to collect feathers. She makes jewelry and fishing flies to
    trade for other things...I thought, what better place to get a variety
    of feathers!!! There are a couple of macaw parents, many parrot
    parents and all...

    And, yes the feathers will be disinfected before used for anything.
    Charla did make a good point, and just collecting feathers carelessly
    can cause problems....

    Did you know, you can place some feathers in a stocking, tie off
    the top, and wash and dry them in the machine, and they come out
    nice and fluffy!! ?? (I've been told this by several people, I
    have not tried it yet...I may know soon if my bed leaks again!)

14.7Cockatiel Cage WantedNRPUR::DEATONtired of thinking up cute quotesThu May 04 1989 14:367
	I am looking for a cage for a cockatiel. I'd like it reasonably large
as we may someday decide to get another.

	I live in Clinton, MA and work in Northboro.

14.8You could do it yourself...DELNI::G_KNIGHTINGThinkingspeakingthinkingspeaking.Fri May 05 1989 13:2011
    	Dan, it's easy enough to build your own cage with materials
    that are readily available, and design it to suit the space you
    have available and the particular needs of your birds. We have
    an orange-wing Amazon, a pair of budgies, and a canary, and we've
    built all the cages ourselves. We bought the materials at UCF in
    S. Lancaster (on Mill St. off of Rt. 110 just outside of Clinton,
    and there are some cages there to look at to see how it's done.
    I live in Clinton also, so if you decide to build your own, maybe I
    can answer questions or lend a hand.

    Want to swap some budgies and cages for other stuff. Make a proposal.
    We have a variety of HOIE cages, thin wire and heavy wire. Also one
    HOIE divided 'get acquainted' cage, with wire and solid dividers (only
    suitable for canaries). Practically new. Two mature possible breeder
    pairs, appear to be 'bonded' if this is possible for budgies, several
    younger budgies. Unfortunately, only one of the younger budgies are
    finger-trained and friendly. A couple of the others show potential.
    Interested in spare feed and water cups, parrot toys, untreated natural
    branches for toys or perches. Located in Clinton, MA.

    Denise-

    The fellow I bought my canary from also breeds English Budgies.
    More accurately, he breeds the canaries and his wife breeds the
    budgies!

    His name is Charlie Bombadier; I don't recall his wife's name.
    They live in Nashua just off exit 6 from Route 3. I don't see
    his phone number in the latest phone book, but will try to track
    it down and send it to you via mail.

    They're a retired couple who adore their birds. (Warning:
    Charlie and his wife will talk your ear off! I spent about 3
    hours there with them when I picked out my canary! They're both
    real characters; I'm glad to have met them.)

    Help,  I just bought a conure from a neighbor who's husband couldn't
    stand his noise. I don't know what type he is, but he's a orangey
    yellow with a green tail and a flame colored head. He's cute as
    a button and very smart. He's in a cage that I think is too small
    and I'd like to find a larger cage that won't cost me too much.
    Does anyone out there have a conure size cage that you'd like to
    sell at a reasonable price?

14.30Fawn Male Zebra Finch WantedMEIS::TILLSONSugar MagnoliaTue Dec 04 1990 20:4026

    Looking for a fawn male zebra finch with excellent colour and large
    size. NFS banded/known parentage preferred but not required. Minor
    show faults (imperfectly proportioned head, imperfect back/tail line)
    acceptable as long as the colour and size is there. Age unimportant as
    long as it is not past breeding age.

    Willing to pay top $$ or exchange high quality chestnut flanked white
    or gray birds, or fawn hens, or trade for other equal value.

    The bird would go to an excellent home (mine) - placed in a selective
    breeding situation where it would receive top notch diet, lighting,
    spacious environment and a lovely fawn hen with beautiful lines. I'm
    trying to breed a strong, show quality line, so no expense or effort
    would be spared in this bird's care. I'd be willing to take more than
    one if you have (or know of) extras.

    I'm willing to travel within 2 hours of Central Massachusetts. I
    strongly prefer not to have birds shipped - it is costly and hard on
    the birds.

    My canary stopped singing after his first molt last January. Over
    the summer he started again but more timid than before, and he spent
    a lot of time on the back porch which put him near the outdoor birds.

    He's been singing a lot lately but has changed his beautiful songs
    and he now sounds like the sparrows and purple finches that frequent
    my backyard feeders.

    I am looking for the issue of Bird Talk that had the article about
    how to build your own perches and gyms out of pvc. I think it was
    2-4 months ago, but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have a
    copy they could xerox the article for me??????

    Many thanks,

    Diane,

    It was October '91, the issue with the lutino 'tiel on the cover.
    My husband and I built the PVC playgym - the kids LOVE it (well, it
    took them about 20 minutes of fear, a major cheetos bribe, and then we
    were golden ;-)

    FWIW, I chose NOT to use PVC cement, but just assembled it without
    cementing. This is perfectly adequate for my cockatoos and my amazon.
    It means I can easily break it down for cleaning, moving, or modifying.
    Also, I can disconnect short sections, place toys such as cardboard
    tubes, rubber rings, etc. on parts of it, and stick it back together.

    If there's anyone closer to you that has the article (I'm in Texas)
    that's probably better, but I can mail it to you if no one locally has
    it.

    						/Rita

14.80Information on Hyacinth MacawODIXIE::RHONEImpossible is an opinion--not a factThu Dec 21 1995 18:4410
    This is not exactly a "wanted", just "want more information". I am
    considering a larger bird -- like a macaw. I am particularly
    interested in the hyacinth macaw, but only captive bred. I have never
    seen one advertised, so I assume they are quite rare and, therefore,
    quite expensive. Can anybody confirm my assumptions and possibly
    provide more information on the bird?

    Regards,

    Well, check out Boston Exotics in Acton, MA. They have a young
    Hyacinth macaw. Its already been sold but you might speak with them
    about when they plan to get another. They've had it since it was
    newly hatched, this past August.

Chris,

    The Hyacinth is the largest of the Macaws. Proven pairs sell in the
neighborhood of $25K, bonded pairs around $15K and immature birds in the $4K-$5K
range. That's alot of money considering Blue & Golds or Scarlets and other
more common Macaws are in the $1K-$2K range (from breeders.) My wife recently
sold 2 six month-old Blue & Golds for $750 each.

    The Hyacinths are supposed to be very gentle birds and not quite as noisy
as the Blue & Golds or Scarlets. A local pet shop has a pair which mated and
hatched 2 chicks right there in the shop with all the noise and commotion of
the business.

   Good luck in your search for the right bird... I wish I had that kind of
money to spend;-);-)

< has a hyacinth named "Sapphire" I think he is about 5 years old and
<    goes for around $15,000 .                             Mary

    Sapphire is a mature bird, perhaps a proven female which would add to
her value. She could be show quality. Most likely the shop owner isn't real
interested in selling her because she's a drawing card to the shop. It's not
at all uncommon for petshops to have a "good talker", a "clown", or a "friendly"
bird in the shop to entertain the customers, birds which are not for sale, but
help generate sales. I don't know the situation surrounding THAT bird.

    I live in Ft. Myers, FL. Pet shops typically charge between 100% and 200%
above the "breeder" price; a price anyone can get if they know where to look
and are not in a hurry. Having said that, the petshop which had the Hyacinths
hatched in the shop, mentioned in -.2, is asking $6K apiece for the babies or
$5K each if you take both. SeaWorld Pet center must be charging a bit extra to
pay for the heating oil used to keep "Sapphire" warm during your cold winter
nights.;-);-)

    Many breeders/brokers will ship up north (my wife recently sent a Yellow
Nape to Allentown, PA), but you're buying sight unseen (this lady's father
lives nearby and acted as her eyes.) For the difference in price between
"up-north" and "'round here" it looks like you could pretty much pay for your
Florida vacation... Shipping Delta-DASH to Allentown from here was $110 or so.
The vet health certificate was $20. So figure on adding $150 or so to the
price you negotiate for the bird.

   We are looking for a female African Gray Timneh (white beak, dark red tail.)
The bird's attitude is not important. We have a nasty male who needs a mate.
This bird will be kept on our Lanai, a huge screened area surrounding the
swimming pool with a nice view of the river in a large cage with lot's of toys.
I should live so good;-);-)

   If you know of a Timneh which has a nasty disposition (no longer real pet
