757.0. "PATHWORKS license problem on MULTIA Software V3.2" by AUBER::TISSERAND_P (Philippe TISSERAND, Digital Equipment France) Wed Feb 05 1997 15:10

Hi,

A customer encounters a problem while trying to configure PATHWORKS on two PC
Venturis running Windows NT 3.51 on which he installed MULTIA software V3.2.

The PATHWORKS server runs V5.0D on an OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 system.

He succeeded with the first MULTIA, set as the configuration manager, by simply
following the instructions given in the system administrator guide:

1) run PWLSETUP, select
    - the transport
    - the PATHWORKS license server
    - license type as combination client server

2) issue command PWLICLM server_name
3) PWLICLM/SHOW

=> the client contains a license for PWLMWNTCC04.01.

He then configured a second MULTIA from the configuration manager, using the
DEFAULT.TPL template.

When he tries to redo the same PATHWORKS configuration on this one, he
finally gets the following message:

"this client does not contain any licenses"

with some error messages in the event viewer:

LIC0057: Error PATHWORKS License Requester failed to Open or Create the
               SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PWLicense Key,
               RegCreateKeyEX failed: 0
LIC0035: Unable to write license information to registry.
               License information not saved.
LIC0056: Error PATHWORKS License Requester failed to set the value
Licenses of the PWLicense subkey, RegSetValueEx failed: 6
LIC0060: Warning PATHWORKS License is improperily Configured,
License Requester will attempt to obtain a PATHWORKS Complete
               License: PWLMWNTCC04.01

The partition is FAT, so there is no access restriction on the registry.

From the PATHWORKS license server point of view, a license has been given to
the MULTIA.

I don't understand the difference since a MULTIA configured from DEFAULT.TPL
not supposed to lock any customization...

Any help appreciated,

Philippe.
