3230.0. "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)" by DECWET::VOBA () Tue Apr 29 1997 14:46

If you are not an NT kernel driver developer, it's OK to hit <Next>.

At the WinHEC 97, Microsoft disclosed for public consumption details
about the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and related
initiatives to be available in Windows NT 5.0. These intiatives
collectively aim to improve the managability of Windows NT systems.

WMI is one of the foundation elements that especially benefit large
Windows NT Server configurations (e.g. AlphaServer 8x00 and 4x00).
This is so _iff_ the kernel drivers implement the WMI API. The WMI API
and other detail information about WMI can be found at the URL:

    	ftp://ntnone.zso.dec.com/ihv/documents/WMI*.DOC

This is a call to action for all kernel driver developers working on
DIGITAL adapters and hardware options. Please, ...

    1.	Forward this note to all you feel ought to be aware of this
    	development.

    2.	Review the WMI specifications.

    3.	Implement the WMI API where appropriate in your drivers.

    4.	Test your WMI'ed drivers early (see below).

    5.	Contact us at nt-ihv@zso.dec.com if help needed.

provide OEMs, IHVs and software developers the capability to easily
setup, monitor, tune and diagnose Windows Platforms and applications.
Topics to be covered include Talon instrumentation architecture,
performance data logging and management, and future OS instrumentation
    integration.

Please make plan to attend if your work involves Windows NT device
    driver design and implementation.
