Title: I might apply........yeah right!
==============================================================================
In the second lap of the race, Emmo touched wheels with Greg Moore and
was sent into the wall HARD. He was transported to the on site medical
centre, and later airlifted to the local hospital. He suffered a
fracture to the seventh cervical vertabrae, a fractured left shoulder
blade, and a bruised and partially collapsed lung. He underwent
surgery in Miami today, which was successful in repairing the fractured
neckbone. He will be out for the remainder of the season, but the
prognosis for return next season is very good.
This leaves Penske in an interesting situation. He is part owner of
Fittipaldi's team (with Carl Hogan). Penske lost another of his 3
drivers, Paul Tracy, in Saturday practice, with similiar injuries. He
smacked the wall and chipped one of his spinal bones. His return is
unknown, and Penske could very well be looking for two part time
drivers for the rest of this season.

| Emmo underwent 5 hours of surgery to repair the broken cervical
vertebra. The surgery was successful and Emmo is up and about and
says there's very little pain. Prognosis is excellent for a full
recovery except for a 15% restriction in mobility of the neck.
Recovery is expected to take a minimum of 3 months, after which he
should be able to drive again. Emmo is presently considering whether
he should retire from racing.
